Market Cycles At i Light Future 2026: Why Wet-Market Crates Become Light Art

Market Cycles at i Light Future 2026 turns a familiar Singapore object into a public artwork: the plastic crate. The installation by Singaporean designers Tan Mei Yee and Ng Choon Wee will be located at Mist Walk.

The work assembles wet-market-style crates into an illuminated enclosure, using their perforated sides to create colour, texture and patterned light.

Why It Works For Singapore Viewers

The subject is ordinary, which is the point. These crates move quietly through supply chains every day, yet most of us register them only as background objects around markets, loading bays and food businesses.

By borrowing that material language for a light installation, Market Cycles gives visitors a way to think about reuse, logistics and design without turning the stop into a lecture.

Part Of i Light Future

The work sits under i Light Future 2026, a DesignSingapore Council mentorship initiative for students and early-career creatives. That makes it one of the more locally grounded stops in the festival trail.
