Real Madrid came from 3-1 down to beat Roma 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night, completing a seven-goal Champions League turnaround in the league phase.

Marten de Roon put the hosts ahead in the 19th minute with a strike from outside the box after Matías Soulé’s assist. Kylian Mbappé levelled five minutes later from range, with Yan Diomande’s headed pass setting up the France captain on his 100th Champions League appearance.
Roma surge, then Madrid’s late storm
Roma looked in control after the break. Donyell Malen restored the lead in the 50th minute from Rodrigo Mora’s assist, then made it 3-1 six minutes later when Soulé threaded a through ball on the break.

Madrid needed a corner scramble to start the recovery. Carlos Espí forced the ball in from close range in the 82nd minute after a corner, confirmed by VAR. Endrick headed the equaliser two minutes later from Arda Güler’s delivery. Rüdiger stabbed in the winner in the 89th minute, again from a Güler corner, to finish a night that had looked lost with under 10 minutes left.
What the result means
Madrid left Rome with three points after trailing by two goals deep in the second half. Roma had led 3-1 in front of their own crowd and finished with nothing from a Champions League home night that flipped in the closing stages.
Endrick was named Player of the Match. His two headers, one leading to the second goal and the other drawing Madrid level, sparked the fightback. Former Roma defender Rüdiger scored the winner. The seven goals in Rome helped make this the highest-scoring matchday in Champions League history, with 78 goals across 18 games.
