Singapore hosts the International Va’a Federation World Sprint Championships at Marina Bay from 17 to 31 August 2026, the event’s first staging in Asia.
More than 3,000 athletes from over 30 countries are expected, and waterfront viewing is free. That scale makes it both a major international championship and an unusually accessible National Day-season spectator event.
What You Will See On The Water
Va’a is the Polynesian term for an outrigger canoe, stabilised by a lateral float. The programme includes single-paddler OC1 and V1 craft, crew boats in V6 and V12 formats, Para Va’a categories and age-group divisions.
Races cover 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m. Turn races add a tactical spectacle as crews accelerate towards a buoy, execute the turn and rebuild speed for the return.
- Craft: OC1, V1, V6 and V12.
- Distances: 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m.
- Para and age-group racing included.
Where To Watch For Free
The official guide names the Merlion, Esplanade, Fullerton and Marina Bay Sands waterfronts as public viewing areas. Sightlines will depend on the race course and crowd, so move along the promenade rather than assuming one fixed grandstand view.
Daytime racing is listed between 7am and 7pm. Bring sun protection, water and a compact rain layer; exposed waterfront conditions can change quickly.
- Dates: 17–31 August 2026.
- Hours listed: 7am–7pm.
- Admission: free along the Marina Bay waterfront.
Making A Day Of It
Pop-up booths and fringe activity are planned around the championship. Use the Downtown Line or Circle Line to avoid parking pressure around Marina Bay.
See more competition dates in Little Big Red Dot’s Sports guides.
- Arrive early for clearer railingside views.
- Keep shared paths open for other waterfront users.
