Singapore’s national EV charging requirements have been elevated from Technical Reference 25 to Singapore Standard SS 722 from 1 April 2026.
For drivers, this is a behind-the-scenes change that should show up as safer, more reliable public and private charging infrastructure as the EV network expands.
What Changed
The standard covers design, installation, maintenance and operation of EV charging systems. It also supports emerging charging technologies and gives industry players a clearer common reference for technical practices.
That matters because charging quality is not just about the number of chargers. Reliability, safe installation and consistent maintenance determine whether drivers can trust a charger when they need it.
What Drivers Can Do
When choosing a condo, workplace or public charging point, look beyond price. Check charger availability, maintenance track record, payment method and whether the location is suitable for your usual dwell time.
