It is their third meeting this season. Andreeva won their Madrid quarterfinal 7-6(1), 6-3 in April; Fernandez hit back 6-1, 6-4 in the Toronto third round in August. In Singapore, the Roland Garros champion opened with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and Fernandez beat Alycia Parks 6-4, 6-3.

Prozorova ends Eala’s run

The upset of the week came on Thursday, when world No. 180 Tatiana Prozorova beat third seed Alexandra Eala 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in three hours and nine minutes, coming back from a set and 4-2 down. It was her first win over a top-20 player and puts her in her first WTA quarterfinal, against Wang Xinyu, who beat qualifier Joanna Garland 7-5, 6-4.

Eala had called Singapore a near-home crowd after junior memories at the WTA Future Stars.

The other quarterfinals

Fourth seed Elise Mertens faces fifth seed Maja Chwalinska. Mertens advanced on a walkover when Barbora Krejcikova withdrew. Seventh seed Maria Sakkari plays Talia Gibson after Sakkari beat Nao Hibino and Gibson beat Viktoria Morvayova.

This is the first Singapore stop as a WTA 500 after the 2025 WTA 250 edition. The singles draw is 28 players. The Asian swing uses Singapore and Seoul as tune-ups before the WTA 1000s in Beijing and Wuhan.

Tickets for the remaining sessions are on SISTIC, the tournament’s official agent. ACES Club hospitality adds baseline seats and pre-match hosting. Arena Park’s Fan Zone stays open to the public with food, merchandise and selected match screenings.

The semifinals are on Saturday 26 September and the final on Sunday 27 September.
