SAM Learning Gallery 2026: Free Family Art Stop At Tanjong Pagar

Singapore Art Museum’s Learning Gallery is a practical family art stop because it is free for all and explicitly built around curiosity. SAM lists the gallery at Level 1, Gallery 2, SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, with opening hours from 10am to 7pm.

The official page describes this second edition as an invitation to look beyond the everyday, experiment with ideas and materials, and return to the uninhibited spirit of a child. That framing makes it easier for parents to visit with children who may not want a quiet, lecture-style museum experience.

What Children Can Connect With

The gallery page says the artworks span identity, home, nature and the environment, people and places, space and memory. Those are broad themes, but they translate well into simple questions: what does home look like, how do materials behave, and why do artists transform ordinary objects?

SAM also lists room sheets and school visit information on the page, which means educators can use the gallery as more than a casual stop. Families can borrow the same mindset by letting children describe what they see before adults explain anything.

  • Venue: Level 1, Gallery 2.
  • Opening hours: 10am to 7pm.
  • Admission: free for all.
  • Location: SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark.

Best Visit Strategy

Keep the visit short if you are bringing younger children. A focused 45-minute loop with one or two favourite works will usually be better than dragging children through every label.

For older children, ask them to pick a material or theme and follow it across the gallery. That turns the visit into a light investigation rather than a passive walk.

Planning Notes

Tanjong Pagar Distripark is not a typical mall museum setting, so plan transport and meals before going. The gallery works well as a gentle first stop before exploring other SAM exhibitions in the building.
