The Land Transport Authority and Singapore Civil Defence Force opened an online poll on Friday, 25 September 2026, asking electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle owners to pick a preferred design for differentiated licence plates. Voting runs on OneMotoring through FormSG with Singpass until 9 October.
Three options are on the ballot. Design 1 puts white letters on a dark blue background. Design 2 uses black letters on light blue. Design 3 keeps black letters on light green. The two blue plates were added after feedback on earlier green-only aesthetics. LTA and SCDF say all three stay visible in daylight and low light, stay easy for first responders to spot, and work with traffic and enforcement cameras.
Why the plates matter
The agencies want EVs and PHEVs to stand out from other vehicles so first responders can identify them quickly at an accident or fire. Battery packs need a different approach on scene, including keeping a safer distance from potential battery hazards. LTA and SCDF said in a joint statement on 24 September that the plate is a practical marker for emergency teams and for people nearby.
How the vote works
Anyone can log in and submit a preference, but only votes from registered EV and PHEV owners count in the final tally. Each individual or company owner gets one vote. If the same owner submits more than once, the most recent vote is kept. Someone who owns a vehicle personally and also represents a company can cast one vote in each capacity.
A coloured side-band idea floated in earlier public and industry feedback was dropped: the registration number would shrink to make room, and the band would not work on a double-row plate.
The green design was among three shown to stakeholders in March.
No rollout date has been announced. The poll closes on 9 October.
