MOE Kindergarten Care stays open through the 5 to 13 Sep school holidays except Teachers’ Day on 4 Sep

MOE Kindergarten Care (KCare) stays open on weekdays during the September school holidays from Saturday, 5 September, to Sunday, 13 September 2026, but closes on Teachers’ Day on Friday, 4 September.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) states the rule on its Kindergarten Care page, last updated on 30 March 2026 and checked on Saturday (Aug 29).

TEACHERS’ DAY

Friday, 4 September is a scheduled school holiday on MOE’s 2026 school calendar, published on 30 July 2025. Term III for MOE Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools ends on the same Friday.

“Our preschool teachers will have these two days as holidays, just like other teachers,” said Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli in a 27 October 2023 speech published on the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) website, announcing that Teachers’ Day and Children’s Day would be designated as preschool holidays from 2024.

MSF restated the live rule in its Committee of Supply 2026 factsheet, published on 6 March 2026. The two days sit on top of six Development Days. The requirement for childcare centres to operate on Saturdays was removed from 2025.

“We strongly encourage employers to support the caregiving needs of their employees during the preschools’ closure days, such as by allowing flexible work arrangements,” said Mr Masagos in the same speech.

SEPTEMBER BREAK

The term break then runs from Saturday, 5 September, to Sunday, 13 September. Term IV starts on Monday, 14 September.

MOE Kindergarten sessions follow that calendar. Each MK offers a 4-hour programme, either 8am to 12pm or 1pm to 5pm, on MOE’s Kindergarten page, checked on Saturday (Aug 29).

KINDERGARTEN CARE

KCare is the full-day wrap at every MK, on the same premises. MOE’s page says it operates Monday to Friday, till 7pm, including school holidays, and is closed on public holidays, Teachers’ Day, Children’s Day and up to six additional days each year.

The programme includes meals, plus indoor and outdoor modular activities and free play. Friday, 4 September is a closure for both the MK session and KCare. Weekdays from Monday, 7 September, to Friday, 11 September, fall inside the MOE break, when the 4-hour MK session is off and KCare is listed as open.

The maximum KCare monthly fee for 2026 is S$425. All Singapore Citizen children are eligible for a basic subsidy of S$150 a month. KCare fees are also payable during the June and December holidays, according to the same MOE page.

CHILDCARE CENTRES

Licensed full-day childcare does not follow the MOE term break. PCF Sparkletots’ services page, checked on Saturday (Aug 29), says its childcare programme operates from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and closes for eight days in a year. Those eight days include Teachers’ Day, Children’s Day and six staff development days.

M.Y World Preschool’s FAQ, checked the same day, lists weekday hours of 7am to 7pm, excluding gazetted public holidays, Teachers’ Day, Children’s Day and staff development days.

My First Skool’s 2026 academic calendar, checked on Saturday (Aug 29), lists Teacher’s Day on Friday, 4 September, and Children’s Day on Friday, 2 October. It does not list the 5 to 13 September MOE vacation as a centre closure.

PCF Sparkletots kindergarten programmes close on weekends, public holidays and MOE’s scheduled school holidays, except for the PSLE marking exercise, according to centre pages such as Queenstown Blk 3 (KN), checked on Saturday (Aug 29).

Households with one child in an MK session and another in licensed childcare therefore face a split week: both centres shut on 4 September, then childcare stays open through the following weekdays while the MK session stays on holiday.

Full-day childcare fee caps at Anchor Operator centres remain at S$610 before GST this year, as set out in MSF’s Committee of Supply 2026 factsheet. A dated plan for older siblings sits in Little Big Red Dot’s September school holidays roundup.

CHILDREN’S DAY

The next preschool holiday after Teachers’ Day is Children’s Day on Friday, 2 October 2026. MOE’s academic calendar, last updated on 2 June 2026, lists it as Children’s Day (MK, Primary). My First Skool’s 2026 academic calendar, checked on Saturday (Aug 29), lists the same Friday.
