Kamalaya marks its 21st anniversary on Koh Samui with more than 100 international awards

Kamalaya, the hillside wellness sanctuary on Koh Samui, marks its 21st anniversary on 11 November 2026. The Kamalaya 21st anniversary lands in a year when the retreat collected some of its biggest titles yet, taking its tally past 100 international accolades since it opened in 2005.

For Singaporeans, Koh Samui is one of the easier long-weekend escapes in the region: a direct flight of under two hours, then a short drive to the island’s quieter southern coast where Kamalaya sits. If you have ever thought about a proper reset rather than another shopping-and-eating trip, here is what is new.

Kamalaya’s 2026 awards at a glance

The headline honour this year is the top spot in Health Travel Magazine’s World’s 50 Best Wellness Resorts. Kamalaya also placed third among Best Destination Spas in the Rest of the World in Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Awards, and was named Best Global Holistic Haven at The Luxury Spa Edit’s Global Spa Awards, a title it also won in 2024.

Other 2026 wins include:

  • Wellness Cuisine of the Year at the Destination Deluxe Awards
  • Best Solo Getaway at the Organic Spa Media Wellness Travel Awards
  • People’s Choice Best Wellness Retreat at the Spa & Wellness Awards 2026
  • A place on Oprah Daily’s list of 58 leading global retreats
  • The Wellness Resort category at the Azure Road Impact Awards, for responsible travel
  • Best Integrative Wellness Sanctuary in Koh Samui at the Luxuri Awards

Those sit on top of earlier recognition such as Best Hotel Spa in Thailand at the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2025 and a spot in National Geographic’s Best of the World 2024 list of top wellness experiences.

From detox to sleep and healthy ageing

Kamalaya built its name on combining traditional Eastern healing with Western medical research, delivered by a team that includes naturopaths, Traditional Chinese Medicine doctors, yoga instructors, fitness trainers, massage therapists and meditation mentors. Detox, stress management and emotional balance remain its core, but the programme list has widened to cover sleep, healthy ageing, hormonal health and cognitive wellbeing.

Current customised programmes include Structural Revival, Comprehensive Detox, Enriched Gut, Women’s Health, Brain Enhancement and Sacred Renewal. That last one is the newest: a programme rooted in ancient wisdom and timed to the lunar cycle, which we covered when it launched as Kamalaya’s lunar-cycle wellness programme earlier this year.

What the team says

General Manager and Group Director of Wellness Development Gopal Kumar says the sanctuary has welcomed more than 33,000 international guests over two decades. He describes the awards as recognition of “the vision, dedication and genuine care” that have shaped Kamalaya, and says the team plans to carry the same philosophy forward.

Planning a wellness trip from Singapore

A retreat like this is a bigger spend than a typical Thai beach break, so it pays to plan around the programme length you actually want and book flights early, especially around the year-end holidays. If you travel often, our guide to the best credit cards for overseas travel in Singapore can help you earn miles or cashback on the trip. Heading to Thailand by way of Bangkok instead?
