Google Fitbit Edge opens for pre-order in Singapore at S$249, in stores from 27 October

Google’s Fitbit Edge is now on pre-order in Singapore at S$249, with retail stock due from 27 October, according to HardwareZone. The screen-equipped tracker is listed on the Google Store Singapore with free delivery, sitting above the screenless Fitbit Air and below the Pixel Watch 5.

Price and colours

The Fitbit Edge costs S$249 on the Google Store. It comes in four finishes, each pairing an aluminium case with a band colour:

  • Matte Black with an Obsidian band
  • Satin Silver with a Fog band
  • Satin Pyrite with an Olive band
  • Champagne Gold with a Canyon band

The case is made from 100 per cent recycled aluminium.

What the hardware is

This is a slim band-style tracker with an always-on AMOLED display, not a round smartwatch. The case measures 39.22mm by 25.56mm and 11.58mm thick, and weighs 17.7g without the band. It is rated to 5 ATM and IP68.

Positioning runs on built-in GPS alongside Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou and QZSS, so runs and rides can be tracked without a phone. Connectivity is Bluetooth 5.4. On the wrist it handles notifications with quick replies, music controls and Google Maps turn-by-turn directions.

Health sensors

The sensor list is longer than the size suggests. The Edge carries an ECG app that detects signs of atrial fibrillation, Irregular Rhythm Notifications, SpO2 tracking and a skin temperature sensor, on top of continuous heart rate.

Google claims up to seven days of battery life and a full charge in 90 minutes. Those are manufacturer figures, and battery life on trackers with always-on screens and GPS tends to vary with how much of both you use.

Built to be repaired

HardwareZone reported that Google is pitching the Edge as the first repairable Fitbit, with a battery that can be replaced rather than the whole tracker. Google first showed the Edge in mid-October, and Singapore is among the markets getting it at launch.

Gemini coaching costs extra

The headline software feature is Google Health Coach, a Gemini-based coaching tool. It needs a Google Health Premium subscription. Launch buyers in Singapore get three months of Premium included, according to HardwareZone, after which the subscription is a separate cost.

The Edge works with iPhones on iOS 16.4 or later and Android phones on Android 11 or later. A Google account and the Google Health app are required to set it up.

How it compares

Google’s own Singapore range puts the Edge in the middle. The Fitbit Air, which has no screen at all, costs S$189. The Fitbit Sense 2 is listed at S$428, and the Pixel Watch 5 starts from S$569. Against the Air, the Edge adds the display, built-in GPS and on-wrist navigation, and against the Pixel Watch 5 it trades a round smartwatch screen and app store for a lighter band.

Where to buy

Pre-orders are open now on the Google Store Singapore. HardwareZone reported that from 27 October, the Fitbit Edge is also due at Metapod, Best Denki, FairPrice, Harvey Norman, and on Shopee and Lazada.
