Everton 3-1 Coventry: Barry brace lifts Moyes’ side to fifth

Thierno Barry scored twice and set up the third as Everton came from behind to beat Coventry City 3-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday night, 6 November 2026. The win lifted David Moyes’ side to fifth in the Premier League on 16 points from 10 matches, and it was Moyes’ 592nd game in charge of the club, equalling the record held by Harry Catterick.

Coventry strike first after a blank half

Neither side scored before the break. Coventry, managed by former Everton manager Frank Lampard, then went ahead in the 52nd minute through Yann Gboho, who poked in from the centre of the box with three Everton defenders around him.

The lead lasted four minutes. Vitalii Mykolenko swung in a cross from the left and Barry headed Everton level in the 56th minute. Five minutes later Barry struck again from very close range for 2-1.

Jordan Pickford had earlier kept the score level in the first half with a save from Sakamoto, and Jack Rudoni had drilled a shot just wide. Coventry were the side that looked likelier to break the deadlock before Gboho finally did.

Barry turns creator for the third

Barry was not finished. In the 81st minute he slid a through ball down the left for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who finished from a tight angle past Carl Rushworth to make it 3-1. The French striker finished the night with two goals and the assist for the third.

Everton had beaten Newcastle United 1-0 away on Monday, 2 November. Friday’s result made it back-to-back Premier League wins heading into the international break, in front of 52,395 at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Where the table sits

Everton sit fifth with four wins, four draws and two defeats, a goal difference of plus two. Chelsea are fourth on the same 16 points but with a game in hand. Coventry are 16th on nine points from 10 matches, with three wins and seven defeats after Lampard’s return to Merseyside ended in defeat.

Arsenal still lead the league on 24 points from nine games, with Manchester City second on 21 and Brighton & Hove Albion third on 19. The rest of the weekend programme still has to be played, so Everton’s place can move again before Monday morning in Singapore.
