The main artwork: “Indigo Wrap”
Thai artist Noppawan Nuansiri created “Indigo Wrap” in 2011. The black-and-white sculpture uses floral and circular motifs to evoke indigo-dyed textiles and wrapped fabric. The hotel describes it as one of only two large-scale Elephant Parade sculptures currently on display in Singapore, with each carrying a different design.
The official page does not publish a separate admission charge or fixed viewing hours for the sculpture. Because it is inside an operating hotel, visitors making a dedicated trip should ask the hotel where it is displayed and whether access changes during private functions.
How the charity component works
JOURNEY by TOUCH Community Services supports artists with intellectual disabilities. Fifteen Elephant Parade-inspired artworks painted by JOURNEY artists are displayed at D9 Cakery and offered at S$250 nett each. The hotel says all proceeds from those sales benefit JOURNEY.
This is distinct from the 7 August Art & Drink workshop, where 20% of proceeds supports JOURNEY. The difference matters: buying a charity artwork and booking a workshop do not direct the same share of payment to the beneficiary. Readers choosing primarily by impact should use the stated percentages, not assume every campaign purchase is a full donation.
Contests: read the mechanic before participating
Shop & Win requires an Elephant Parade purchase from D9 Cakery. The prize combines a two-night stay with breakfast for two at InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping, an Elephant Parade Land experience for two and a THB5,000 Central shopping card. Results are due on 1 September, with the hotel contacting the winner directly.
Snap & Win is separate. A photo with the display must be shared publicly on Instagram or Facebook during July, with the required accounts followed and tagged. The top three posts by likes receive surprise gifts, and results are due on 3 August. A public profile requirement has privacy implications; do not enter if making the post public is uncomfortable.
Is the S$118 workshop right for you?
Art & Drink runs at Opus Bar from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, 7 August. The S$118 nett ticket includes a DIY elephant painting activity, light bites and free-flow drinks. The hotel says 20% of proceeds will support JOURNEY and participants also enter the campaign prize draw.
Before booking, ask what drinks are included, whether a non-alcoholic option is available, the finished sculpture size, cancellation terms and whether materials are suitable for younger participants. The event page does not answer every one of those practical questions.
Who should visit?
- Quick Orchard stop: see “Indigo Wrap” and the JOURNEY works, then decide whether to buy.
- Art buyer focused on direct benefit: the S$250 works have the clearest “all proceeds” statement.
- Social participant: read the July contest’s public-profile and tagging rules first.
- Workshop participant: treat S$118 as an experience ticket with a 20% charitable component, not a S$118 donation.
