NEA keeps haze in high moderate to low unhealthy range as central PSI stays above 100

Singapore’s central region stayed in the unhealthy air-quality band into Thursday morning (10 September 2026), with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index around 103 to 105 after hitting 102 at 11pm on Wednesday, according to NEA figures reported by CNA and The Straits Times.

What NEA is forecasting

NEA said moderate to dense smoke plumes continue from fires in southern and central Sumatra and Kalimantan, with some haze drifting towards Singapore. The agency’s outlook for the 24 hours to 6pm on Thursday sits in the high moderate to low unhealthy range. Showers may ease parts of Sumatra, but dry conditions are still expected over southern Sumatra and Kalimantan.

Travel and outdoor plans

September school holidays run through 14 September 2026. Healthy adults should cut prolonged or strenuous outdoor exertion when the PSI is in the unhealthy band of 101 to 200. Children, older adults and people with heart or lung conditions should minimise outdoor exertion. For same-day outdoor calls, NEA points the public to one-hour PM2.5 readings on myENV alongside the 24-hour PSI forecast.

Checkpoint reminder

Cross-border trips to Malaysia still face longer waits during the holiday window, and ICA has already flagged stepped-up security checks. Haze does not close the Causeway, but it does change how long outdoor queues and open-air waiting feel, so build buffer time and pack masks if anyone in the group is sensitive to smoke.
