Singapore is holding its inaugural Paralympic Day at Angsana Green, East Coast Park, on Saturday (Aug 29), with a free 3km walkathon flagged off at 10.30am.
The Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) set out the programme on its event website. Sport Singapore’s ActiveSG Circle lists the same venue, distance and guest of honour.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is guest of honour for the opening ceremony. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Low Yen Ling, South East District Mayor Dinesh Vasu Dash and Japan’s Ambassador to Singapore Hiroshi Ishikawa are listed among the guests, together with East Coast GRC Members of Parliament.
SNPC’s illustrated map, published on the event site in August, lists the day from 8am to 4.30pm. Guest-of-honour arrival is set at 10am, with walkathon flag-off at 10.30am. The event website lists public registration from 8.30am. Admission is free.
3KM WALKATHON
Registration is free on paralympicday.com.sg. Registered walkathon participants receive an event pack with an exclusive tee and tote bag, according to SNPC’s published entitlements.
On-site pack collection at Angsana Green runs from 7.30am to 10.30am on Saturday. An earlier window at the SNPC office at 3 Stadium Drive was listed for 22 and 23 August.
The 3km route starts at Angsana Green. ActiveSG Circle describes it as a scenic East Coast Park course suitable for all fitness levels, abilities and ages. The SNPC map marks a walkathon start line and a Toyota finishing line.
Team Nila percussion is listed at 9.45am, ahead of the flag-off. Tanjong Katong Secondary School’s band is listed at 11am, Tao Nan School’s choir at 11.30am, and an ActiveSG fitness session from 11.30am to 12pm. Dance of the Nation by ActiveSG is listed from 11.45am to 12pm.
PARA SPORT TRY-OUTS
Para sports try-outs run from 9am to 4.30pm, according to the official activities grid. The listed sports are boccia, blind football, laser shooting, hand cycling, sitting volleyball and frame running. Decathlon sport try-outs are listed for the same hours.
Carnival booths on the SNPC map include a Roary photobooth, a Canon print booth, handicraft stations and a wishing wall. Pony feeding is listed from 10am to 12pm.
The event site’s Cheer Our Champions gallery features Team Singapore para athletes, including Paralympic swimmers Yip Pin Xiu, Sophie Soon and Theresa Goh, and boccia action from previous Games.
VIRTUAL CHALLENGE
A separate virtual challenge asks participants to clock 30km. SNPC is offering a limited-edition Japan pin to the first 500 redemptions.
Distances can be submitted through Strava auto-sync, or by uploading a GPS screenshot that shows date, distance and timing. Corporate groups can register through [email protected], the event site says.
NAGOYA 2026
SNPC frames the day as support for Singapore’s para athletes heading to the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 18 to 24 October 2026.
The same council said Team Singapore returned from the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, with 29 medals: 13 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze. A 37-strong contingent competed. Para swimmer Toh Wei Soong led the haul with three golds. The boccia team took three golds and two bronzes.
