Choose Kallang or Tanjong Rhu MRT
The official route estimates are 13 minutes on foot from Kallang MRT and 11 minutes from Tanjong Rhu MRT. The two-minute arithmetic difference is too small to decide the route by itself. Station access from home, the assigned gate, accessibility needs and the post-show destination matter more.
Use Kallang when the East-West line connection is simpler. Use Tanjong Rhu when the Thomson-East Coast line is more direct or the assigned gate makes that approach easier. A family with a pram, older relative or mobility concern should ask the organiser about the appropriate accessible route instead of relying only on the walking-time estimate.
Add a 45-minute arrival buffer
An 11- or 13-minute walk is not the full door-to-seat journey. Add 45 minutes for station exit, crowd flow, security screening, finding the gate, toilets and seating. This is an LBRD planning allowance, not an official queue estimate. A family aiming for the 4.30pm gate opening should therefore reach its chosen station by about 3.45pm, then adapt to instructions on the day.
Arriving early does not override entry rules or guarantee faster screening. It simply reduces dependence on a perfect train connection and gives children time to settle.
Do not build the plan around a taxi
The official directions page lists affected bus stops and taxi stands around National Stadium, Nicoll Highway, Stadium Crescent, Stadium Walk and Stadium Boulevard. For the actual parade day, some listed stops are affected from 6am to midnight. Official closure table and maps.
A taxi may still be useful to reach a station outside the closure area, but do not promise a driver can reach the stadium door. Save the official direction maps offline and tell the driver the planned rail station, not an uncertain kerbside point.
Make a paper reunion card
Give each child a small card with the child’s first name, a caregiver’s mobile number, the assigned gate or sector and a fixed reunion landmark outside the security queue. Do not include a home address or unnecessary identity details. Photograph the child’s outfit before leaving home so it can be described accurately if the group is separated.
Choose two reunion levels: first, the nearest uniformed staff member if separated inside; second, a named public landmark outside only if directed out. Children should not wander between stations searching for adults.
Check the prohibited-items document

Pack light and use the ticket instructions as the controlling list. Bring only permitted essentials such as required medication, a charged phone and weather protection allowed by the rules. Do not infer that an item is acceptable because it was allowed at another stadium event.
Build a two-wave exit plan
- Primary branch: follow organiser instructions to the station that best matches the onward line.
- Backup branch: if the first approach is too congested or temporarily controlled, use the other official walking route only when staff directions allow it.
- Wait branch: if the family is tired but secure, pause at an open, designated public area rather than pushing into the first crowd wave.
- Separation branch: return to the agreed reunion protocol and approach uniformed staff.
This sequence is an LBRD crowd-management plan. Police, transport and organiser instructions on the day override it. Do not cross barriers or closed roads to save time.
Explain the programme to children
