SAM Art Carnival is free at Singapore Art Museum’s Tanjong Pagar Distripark venue on Saturday, 25 July 2026. Carnival activities run from 10am to 5pm, while free exhibition admission continues until 7pm. Some activities are drop-in; the Beading Corner and Cyanotype Workshop require registration.

A low-stress family route
Arrive around 9.45am if a popular workshop or limited giveaway matters. The first 300 visitors who sign up at the registration booth are slated to receive a limited SAM30 Clicker, one per person while stocks last. Treat that as a bonus, not a reason to promise a child a guaranteed item.
Start on Level 1 with drop-ins such as Bouncy Clips, Colour Mix Creations, Colour Your Garden or Ink Your Imagination. Feeling Colours runs only from 10am to 2pm, so prioritise it before lunch if the tactile colour-card activity appeals. Still Life Studio begins at 1pm.
Move to Level 3 for the Learning Gallery-linked Fan Stamp Station, Origami Craft Station and scheduled performance. Face painting runs from 2pm to 4pm. Families with a 4pm performance plan can visit galleries after the carnival closes at 5pm because free exhibition entry continues until 7pm.
Registration versus drop-in activities
The Beading Corner and Cyanotype Workshop are listed as free by registration, with links from the official event page to the registration platform. A free price does not guarantee a place. Confirm the named attendee, age guidance, session time and arrival requirement in the booking confirmation.
Most other listed craft stations are drop-in, but materials can still run out and queues can form. Choose two priority activities and one fallback instead of trying to complete every station. Bring a small water bottle and a bag for artwork; label children’s take-home pieces before moving floors.
What is free in the galleries?
SAM says all exhibitions are free during the carnival, 10am to 7pm. The line-up includes Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form Is Emptiness, a major survey with 63 works from 11 series and 14 fossils from the artist’s collection, and Maria Taniguchi: Afterimage, which opens on 24 July.
For young children, a short gallery visit with one question—“Which work would you like to remember?”—may be more successful than attempting every room. SAM permits personal photography unless otherwise marked, but its visitor guidance prohibits flash, tripods and extension poles.
Getting to SAM from Cantonment MRT
SAM is at 39 Keppel Road, #01-02 Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Singapore 089065. Its official visitor page says Cantonment MRT (CC31) Exit 1 is about a two-minute walk. Exit, keep Tanjong Pagar Distripark on the right, enter the gate and walk towards Block 39, Lobby B.
Drivers can use paid parking at Block 39, but an all-day event may make rail simpler. SAM lists wheelchair access to all galleries, a manual wheelchair loan on a first-come basis, an accessible toilet with child facilities, a nursing pod and a Calm Space for sensory breaks.
Food, breaks and expectations
SIP at SAM is scheduled to operate from 10am to 6pm with a carnival menu. SAM says the first 300 drink purchases receive a Rainbow Cookie, while stocks last. Food and purchases are not implied by the event’s “free” admission, so bring a separate meal budget.
