Retired Singirl: National Gallery Singapore’s AI avatar of Amanda Heng launches on 13 November

What would it be like to chat with an artist’s archive? Retired Singirl, a new digital commission by Singapore artist Amanda Heng, launches at National Gallery Singapore on 13 November 2026. It is the Gallery’s first artist-centred AI commission, built on Heng’s likeness.

What is Retired Singirl?

Retired Singirl (2025 to 2030) is a digital avatar that works as a living, interactive archive. It draws on Heng’s extensive body of work, archives and ideas, and it evolves through conversations with visitors about Singapore’s art history. It was developed in close collaboration with the artist and remains grounded in her authorship and vision.

The work builds on Heng’s long-running interest in dialogue and participation, from her landmark Let’s Chat (1996) to her ongoing Singirl series (2025 to 2030). Here, visitors are invited into a conversational encounter with her practice.
