Giant pandas are stealing the spotlight at River Wonders this September. Jia Jia and Kai Kai are celebrating their birthdays, and the Panda Planet Immersive Experience (“熊猫星球”大熊猫主题互动展) is making its first stop outside China, giving families a double reason to visit as the school holidays approach.

Two birthdays, two celebrations
Jia Jia turns 18 on 3 September, while Kai Kai turns 19 on 14 September. Guests can join the in-person celebrations on 5 and 13 September respectively at Pavilion Capital Giant Panda Forest, watching the pair dig into specially made gift boxes packed with their favourite treats. The enrichment, prepared by their care team, is designed to encourage natural foraging while keeping the pandas mentally and physically engaged.

Inside Panda Planet
From 4 to 14 September, Pavilion Capital Giant Panda Forest hosts the Panda Planet Immersive Experience across three themed zones. It is presented by iPanda, CCTV.com’s dedicated giant panda channel, as part of the China-Singapore Panda Relations (中新熊猫情缘) initiative with Mandai Wildlife Group.

The Giant Panda Science Zone explains the evolution, behaviours and adaptations of giant pandas, alongside the conservation work supporting this vulnerable species. The Kai Kai & Jia Jia Birthday Zone shares fun facts about the pair and a special update on Le Le, Singapore’s first and only local-born cub, who returned to China in January 2024 to join a conservation programme. Finally, the MR Experience Zone offers an interactive virtual glimpse into the giant panda’s natural ecosystem.

Across the zones, visitors can test their panda knowledge with science trivia and snap photos at panda-themed spots to redeem exclusive rewards. For more family outings, browse our picks of things to do in Singapore and what’s happening this month.
