Isak strikes twice early
Gakpo drifted infield and punched a pass into Isak, who took one touch and hammered a near-post finish past Kjell Scherpen. A few minutes later Gakpo slipped the ball in with the outside of his boot. Isak’s footwork beat his marker and the keeper, and he rolled in the second with his left foot.
Isak thought he had a hat-trick from a Florian Wirtz pass, but the flag went up for offside. Dominik Szoboszlai twice forced Scherpen into saves as Liverpool kept the game in the Ipswich half.
Barcola debuts in a clean sheet
Ronald Araujo started for the first time since his summer loan arrival, with one change from the draw against Nottingham Forest. Alisson Becker denied Julio Enciso on the hour. Bradley Barcola then made his Liverpool debut in the 64th minute, coming on with Ryan Gravenberch as the away end sang a reworked Maxi Rodriguez chant.
Late on, a deflected Jack Clarke shot wrong-footed Alisson but ran just wide. Liverpool kept Ipswich at arm’s length for a clean sheet and all three points.
Five points from three
The win is Iraola’s first in the Premier League since taking charge and lifts Liverpool to five points from three matches. The Reds stay unbeaten in the league this season.
