Sailors Hit Eight Past Geylang As WPL Title Chase Stays Alive

The Lion City Sailors Women kept the WPL title race alive with an 8-0 win over Geylang International at Choa Chu Kang Stadium on Friday, 15 May 2026. It was their 12th win in 13 league matches, and it pushed the Sailors to 130 goals for the season.

The scoreline was built on an Ami Takeuchi hat-trick, braces from Eri Kitagawa and Farah Nurzahirah, and Priscille Le Helloco’s first goal of the season. The result also protected the Sailors’ goal-difference edge in a title race that still has Albirex Jurong in close pursuit.

A slow burn before the flood

Geylang made the first half-hour awkward, which made the size of the final score more telling. The Sailors led through Priscille in the ninth minute, but the match only opened up when Farah and Eri struck in quick succession around the half-hour mark.

By half-time, the Sailors were already 5-0 up. Farah scored from a tight angle in the 38th minute before Ami converted a penalty four minutes later, turning a controlled performance into a rout before Geylang could reset.

Ami Takeuchi keeps setting the pace

Ami’s second penalty arrived on the hour after she was brought down by Nadia Nuraffendi. She completed the hat-trick in the 74th minute, running onto Nurhidayu Naszri’s ball over the top and finishing for her 47th goal of a standout debut WPL campaign.

Eri also added another important number to the season tally, scoring her 26th goal after slipping past her marker and finishing low in the 72nd minute. For a title race that may come down to margins, the Sailors’ ability to keep scoring after matches are settled is not cosmetic.

What comes next

The Sailors now pause their WPL campaign until a potentially decisive meeting with Albirex Jurong on Friday, 12 June. That match matters because Albirex have been the other major force in the title race, and every goal difference swing now carries weight.

There was also a development note beyond the result: 14-year-old Alicia Geste made her WPL debut late in the game, becoming another Girls Academy graduate to step into top-flight football for the club.
