Today, Sunday 27 September, is the last day of Into the Hawkerverse, the Level 2 exhibition at Children’s Museum Singapore on Coleman Street. The exhibition closes from 28 September to make way for a new show opening on 14 November, and admission will be free for all visitors from 29 September to 12 November, with only Level 1 open.
For households with children aged 12 and below, that leaves two remaining entry slots today, 2pm and 4pm, and then a six-week window of free visits to a smaller museum.
The last two slots today
Each timeslot lasts 1 hour 45 minutes, and tickets lapse for anyone more than 10 minutes late. Walk-ins are accepted when there is space, but entry is not guaranteed, so booking a timeslot ahead is the safer plan on a closing day.
Singaporeans and permanent residents enter free with a pink or blue NRIC. Foreign residents and tourists pay S$10 per child and S$15 per adult, or S$40 for a family package of two adults and two children, before GST. Adults are admitted only with a child.
The exhibition is split into two halves. The past section introduces the old street hawkers and hawker culture heroes, while the present and future section has children run a stall, sort dishes and look at how hawker centres are designed. Play Pot, a separate corner for children under four, has felt food for masak-masak and a pretend mee goreng pool.
Free, but with one floor and a few closed days
From 29 September to 12 November, Level 1 stays open and entry costs nothing for everyone, tourists included. Advance online booking is still required, and the same 9am, 11am, 2pm and 4pm slots apply, with the museum shut for cleaning from 12.45pm to 2pm. It is closed on Mondays, from 5 to 7 October and on 13 November. Normal fees return when the new exhibition opens on 14 November.
The museum is an eight-minute walk from City Hall MRT station.
A Children’s Day morning across two museums
Separately, the museum is running Little Dreamers, Big Heroes on 2, 3 and 4 October, from 9am to 12.45pm. The programme costs S$20 per parent and child pair and is recommended for ages four to eight.
It starts with a museum visit and a storytelling and craft session at Coleman Street, followed by a chartered bus to either Changi Chapel and Museum, for a story about Elizabeth Choy, or Reflections at Bukit Chandu, for a story called Playtime with Yeye. The bus returns to Coleman Street, and each child receives a Children’s Day gift.
