Ilhan Fandi scored in the 17th and 26th minutes as Lion City Sailors beat Tampines Rovers 2-0 to win the Playback Community Shield 2026/27 on Sunday 6 September 2026 at Jalan Besar Stadium.
The crowd was 3,865. The brace was Ilhan’s first competitive start for the Sailors and gave the club its fourth Community Shield, after titles in 2019, 2022 and 2024.

How the first half ran
Ilhan opened the scoring at 17 minutes, then doubled the lead nine minutes later. Tampines pressed harder after the break but did not break the Sailors’ defence. The result is the Sailors’ first silverware of the 2026/27 season under interim coach Varo Moreno.
What it means for the new SPL season
The Shield was a rematch of last year’s curtain-raiser, which Tampines won 4-1. The 2026/27 Singapore Premier League season starts on Friday 11 September. Tampines host Balestier Khalsa that evening, while the Sailors visit Hougang United at Bishan Stadium on 12 September, both at 7.30pm.

Ilhan’s return night
Ilhan, among seven new Sailors signings who started, returned to the SPL after spells in Belgium and Thailand and recent goals for Singapore at the ASEAN Championship. The Playback Community Shield is the season’s first trophy date before Matchweek 1.
