Chinatown diamond specialist Dianoche has reaffirmed its commitment to secure and transparent diamond services after its team detected and prevented an attempted stone substitution at its boutique. The would-be swap was spotted through a combination of laboratory-grade gemmological technology and the vigilance of trained staff, and following intervention by the authorities, one of the two tourists involved has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, with a further ruling expected shortly.

The case, which drew coverage in the local press, has put a spotlight on how established verification protocols protect high-value purchases. For Dianoche, the company says, those safeguards have always been part of how it operates.
Technology and expertise behind the catch
“Every diamond represents far more than its monetary value; it represents a customer’s trust,” said Elad Kirshberg, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Dianoche. “Our responsibility extends beyond buying and selling diamonds. We are committed to providing expert guidance, secure handling of our clients’ valuables and complete confidence throughout every stage of the transaction.”

Kirshberg added that the episode showed the value of pairing human expertise with specialised tools. “Our trained team was able to identify the substituted stone promptly, take immediate action and notify the authorities. This reinforces the value of rigorous verification processes in safeguarding both our clients’ interests and the integrity of every transaction.”
With more than two decades in the trade, Dianoche offers diamond and jewellery authentication, valuation, buying, selling, trade-ins and advisory services. Every stone is assessed using established verification protocols and internationally recognised grading standards, including GIA standards where applicable.

Free diamond examinations for the public
As a public-service initiative, Dianoche is introducing complimentary preliminary diamond examinations by appointment. The idea is to encourage members of the public to have their diamonds professionally examined, whether before or after a purchase, resale, repair or resizing. By raising awareness of diamond authentication, the company hopes to help consumers make more informed decisions and enjoy greater peace of mind.
“The recent incident serves as a timely reminder that protecting valuable gemstones requires more than recognising their beauty,” Kirshberg said. “It requires the right expertise, trusted verification processes and a commitment to safeguarding clients’ interests at every stage.”
