Chelsea beat Arsenal 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 27 September 2026, as Alyssa Thompson’s close-range finish ended the Gunners’ 20-game Women’s Super League unbeaten run.
Arsenal struck the woodwork twice in the first half through Kim Little and Mariona Caldentey, but could not turn that pressure into a lead. Keira Walsh then drove from distance. Arsenal goalkeeper Anneke Borbe pushed the shot away, and Thompson pounced to fire home the rebound in the 39th minute.
The visitors improved after the break. Chloe Kelly’s angled drive was blocked and Alessia Russo had a shot charged down, yet Chelsea saw out the closing stages for a third league win of the season.
Arsenal had gone 20 WSL games without defeat since a 1-0 win over Brighton on 12 October 2025. The loss leaves them seven points behind leaders Manchester City. They visit Paris FC in the Champions League on Wednesday, then face City at the Etihad on 4 October. Chelsea move to within two points of the top.
