Griner, Gray and Atkins to coach first women’s Basketball Without Borders camp in Singapore

Singapore will host the first Women’s Basketball Without Borders Next Up camp from 18 to 21 November, with WNBA champions Chelsea Gray, Brittney Griner and Ariel Atkins among the coaches, in a FIBA release on Monday (26 October). The camp is run by the WNBA, NBA, FIBA and Sport Singapore.

Eighty prospects, one camp

The camp brings together 80 of the top female high-school-age prospects from outside the United States. Over four days they will go through athletic testing, movement work, skills stations, 3-on-3 competitions, life-skills seminars and 5-on-5 games. FIBA will name the campers in the coming weeks.

The best performers will be picked for the BWB All-Star camp at the following WNBA All-Star. The men’s edition of Next Up was held in Istanbul in August.

The WNBA names coming

The players on the list include:

  • Ariel Atkins (Los Angeles Sparks), 2019 WNBA champion and 2022 Women’s World Cup winner
  • Jordin Canada (Atlanta Dream), two-time WNBA champion
  • Bridget Carleton (Portland Fire), Canada national team
  • Chelsea Gray (Las Vegas Aces), four-time WNBA champion and two-time World Cup winner
  • Brittney Griner (Connecticut Sun), 2014 WNBA champion and two-time World Cup winner
  • Kaitlyn Chen, Naz Hillmon and Michaela Onyenwere

Two-time WNBA champion Kristi Toliver, now associate head coach of the Phoenix Mercury, joins the coaching staff, and Japan’s Yuko Oga comes as a WNBA and FIBA legend.

Clinics for local girls and coaches

The campers and coaches will also run a basketball clinic with Sport Singapore for 50 girls, as well as a coaches clinic and a referees clinic.

This is the third Basketball Without Borders camp in Singapore, after BWB Asia in 2010 and 2025. Since 2001, BWB has reached more than 5,200 participants from 150 countries and territories, and 155 former campers have reached the NBA or WNBA.
