Third Floor Singapore has opened on the rooftop of Design Orchard at 250 Orchard Road. It is an all-day neighbourhood bar from the team behind award-winning No Sleep Club, with cocktails, wine, coffee, food and music in a relaxed, living-room-inspired setting.
Third Floor Singapore: a casual take on No Sleep Club
Overlooking Orchard Road, Third Floor brings the creativity and technical precision of No Sleep Club, which ranked No. 8 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2021 and No. 26 on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2021, into a more everyday space. Think comfortable seating, an open kitchen and bar, and a pace that suits morning coffee, casual lunches, afternoon drinks and evenings with friends.
Founder Juan Yi Jun, who was born and raised in Singapore, says the name comes from her teenage years hanging out around Orchard. “The location became the name, and more importantly, it became ours,” she says. Her career took her through Tippling Club and Operation Dagger before she co-founded No Sleep Club.
Cocktails worth ordering
Drinks start with a memory, an observation or a familiar ritual rather than a spirit. Jun’s graphic design training shapes how ideas are developed, with distillation, fermentation and clarification used to serve the idea, not to show off. Three drinks to look out for:
- Jolly Shandy: a beer-and-lime shandy poured over frozen house-made lime sherbet made from leftover citrus shells and peels, which you stir with a spoon.
- 3 Lime Vodka Soda: calamansi, kaffir lime leaf and Thai sweet lime with a citrus-hop distillate.
- Blue Cheese & Olive: a dirty martini with Stilton-infused gin, fino sherry, vermouth and a house-made tomato concentrate, finished with Gordal olives stuffed with blue cheese cream.
A place to return to
Beyond cocktails, Third Floor serves coffee, food, wine and beer through the day. Music and creative collaborations are part of the plan too. Events such as Void Deck Jam, which we covered when it stepped into Design Orchard on 4 October, bring DJs, independent food vendors and local collaborators together without losing the informality of a neighbourhood bar.
As Jun puts it: “We take what we do seriously, but that doesn’t mean our guests have to.”
