Singapore will replace the Baby Bonus Scheme and the Large Families Scheme with the SG Child Support Package from 1 April 2027.
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced the change at the National Day Rally on Sunday (23 Aug). The National Population and Talent Division (NPTD) in the Prime Minister’s Office published the package figures the same day. Made For Families, checked on 2 September, already flags the switch on its Baby Bonus page and says households now on Baby Bonus will move across automatically while existing payouts continue.

WHAT THE PACKAGE PAYS
NPTD put the package at up to S$62,000 for each Singapore citizen child through age 17, the same amount regardless of birth order. With the existing MediSave Grant for Newborns and annual Edusave top-ups, total direct support reaches almost S$70,000.
| Component | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Baby Gift (cash) | S$10,000 | Two tranches within 12 months of birth |
| Child Credits | S$32,000 (S$2,000 a year) | From the year the child turns 1 to 16 |
| CDA First Step Grant | S$5,000 | When the Child Development Account opens |
| CDA government co-matching | Up to S$5,000 | Against parental savings, to end of the year the child turns 16 |
| PSEA top-up | S$10,000 | In the year the child turns 17 |
| Package total | Up to S$62,000 | Birth to 17 |
For newborns from 1 April 2027, the S$10,000 Baby Gift replaces today’s Baby Bonus Cash Gift of S$11,000 for a first or second child and S$13,000 for a third or subsequent child. CDA co-matching for that cohort is capped at S$5,000 regardless of birth order.

TRANSITION FOR CHILDREN ALREADY ON BABY BONUS
Children born before 1 April 2027 who are still receiving Baby Bonus Cash Gift payouts continue on those payouts until 31 March 2027. Where the cash already paid is less than S$10,000, a top-up follows by 30 April 2027 so the total reaches S$10,000.
Child Credits for 2026 also start from that window. Singapore citizen children who turn one to 16 in 2026 receive their first S$2,000 Child Credit payment by 30 April 2027, then S$2,000 a year until the year they turn 16.
The Child Development Account stays open until the end of the year the child turns 16, up from the current close at age 12. Existing co-matching caps remain until 30 September 2027; after that, co-matching is capped at S$5,000 for all birth orders. Children who turn 17 in 2026 receive the S$10,000 Post-Secondary Education Account top-up in June 2027.

WHAT BABY BONUS STILL PAYS UNTIL THE SWITCH
Until 1 April 2027, the live Baby Bonus rules on Made For Families still apply. The Baby Bonus Cash Gift remains S$11,000 for a first or second Singapore citizen child and S$13,000 for a third or subsequent child, paid every six months through age 6.5 into the Child Savings Account. Enrolment runs through LifeSG with a Child Development Account at DBS/POSB, OCBC or UOB.
Under today’s rules, the cash gift still requires parents who are lawfully married. NPTD said cash under the new package will extend to all Singapore citizen children, including those whose parents are not married, because the benefits are framed as support for the child’s growth rather than a marriage incentive. CDA benefits and preschool subsidies already cover that group today.
LARGE FAMILIES AND WHAT FALLS AWAY
The Large Families Scheme ends with the switch. The extra S$5,000 CDA First Step Grant and S$6,000 Large Family LifeSG Credits for third and subsequent children will not continue under the new package. NPTD said the S$5,000 Large Family MediSave Grant is under review, and that transport and housing support for larger households is being studied separately.
NPTD estimated about 640,000 children aged 17 and below across roughly 380,000 resident households stand to benefit. Related NDR family measures already filed on Little Big Red Dot cover the broader Rally package, childcare leave changes and preschool fee cuts. LifeSG remains the channel for Baby Bonus enrolment until the new package opens; Made For Families is the agency page to watch for the published transition tables.
