The 24-hour PSI is forecast at 90 to 160 on Tuesday 20 October, in the Moderate to Unhealthy range, and haze from Kalimantan may return from Tuesday night to Thursday as winds turn east-southeasterly, the National Environment Agency said in its Monday evening update.

Air quality improved on Monday afternoon after showers fell over parts of Singapore and winds turned to blow from the south-southeast. At 6pm, the 24-hour PSI stood at 88 to 114 and one-hour PM2.5 readings at 51 to 79 micrograms per cubic metre, in Bands 1 and 2. Smoke haze from both Kalimantan and Sumatra was still seen in the vicinity.
Winds turn from Tuesday night
Showers are forecast over Singapore and the surrounding region on Tuesday. South-southeasterly winds may reduce the smoke drifting in from Kalimantan, though some haze from Sumatra may still reach the island.
From Tuesday night until Thursday, winds are likely to turn east-southeasterly, with dry conditions forecast across the region, including parts of Kalimantan. That is the wind direction that carries smoke from Kalimantan fires towards Singapore. NEA’s next-day PSI forecast is meant for planning outdoor activity; for what to do in the next hour, the agency points people to the one-hour PM2.5 readings on haze.gov.sg and the myENV app.
Three more firms get haze notices
Singapore will issue preventive measure notices to three more companies in Indonesia, Sustainability and the Environment Minister Grace Fu announced at Woodlands Checkpoint on Monday, CNA reported. They are PT Buana Megatama Jaya, PT Mananjung Hayak and PT Baratama Putra Perkasa, over fires in Kalimantan that may have contributed to the haze here.
That brings the number of firms served notices under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act to 10, CNA reported, after NEA named seven companies on 16 October. The notices require the companies to fight the fires, stop the burning and prevent the fires from recurring.
Senior Minister K Shanmugam warned at the same visit, according to an MHA transcript, that Singapore would use “every legal and regulatory lever at our disposal” against companies that refuse to cooperate, including pressure on their access to financing and their standing with investors. “If necessary, we will amend current legislation or introduce new laws, on an urgent basis, to ensure further cooperation,” he told reporters. The transcript shows he named Asia Pulp and Paper as a buyer from three of the companies that have received notices, and said the Singapore Exchange has put questions to seven agri-companies listed here.
Events called off or moved
Organisers of five outdoor events have issued their own notices since 15 October. The Great Eastern Women’s Run, which had more than 12,000 registered runners, will not be held this year.

The FA Cup final between Police SA and Gymkhana Gaulois was called off under the FAS haze protocol, CNA reported. The protocol allows amateur matches only when the 24-hour PSI forecast is 200 or below. The Singapore Dog Festival at Sentosa is now set to open on 23 October, subject to air quality, and The Purple Parade will announce its 2027 date once it is confirmed.
ActiveSG sport facilities, shut over the haze last week, resumed operations on 17 October under their normal opening hours, with SportSG advising seniors, children and people with existing health conditions to take extra care outdoors.
