If you have been feeling the buzz around Kallang all week, you are not imagining it. NDP 2026 is here, and this year the National Day Parade returns to the National Stadium for the first time in a decade. Singapore turns 61, and the whole Kallang precinct has been transformed into one giant birthday party. Here is everything you need to know to celebrate SG61 like a true blue local.
What Makes NDP 2026 Special
The big headline is the homecoming. NDP 2026 marks the parade’s return to the National Stadium at Kallang after 10 years away. The wider Kallang precinct is set up to host up to 200,000 people across multiple celebration spaces. It is easily the most accessible National Day in years.
The show itself keeps the classics while adding something new. Expect the presidential gun salute, marching contingents, community performances and the State Flag Flypast. Fireworks remain, but this year they are joined by NDP’s first-ever indoor drone light show. Shiok.
Timing: When To Turn Up
- 5.30pm – pre-parade entertainment begins
- 6.30pm – the main NDP 2026 show kicks off at the National Stadium
- Evening – fireworks finale and the debut indoor drone light show
Do not leave it to the last minute. Crowds around Kallang build quickly, so arrive early and take the MRT rather than driving. Trust us, parking near the Sports Hub on National Day is not a battle you want.
Free Things To Do Around Kallang
No ticket to the parade? No problem. The Kallang precinct has been hosting free public activities from 25 July right through to 9 August. There is plenty to lepak around and enjoy without spending a cent.
- Majulah Hunt – a community treasure hunt across the precinct
- Go Beyond! Lighted Display at Stadium Riverside Walk
- Majulah Zone – an interactive experience open on 9 August from 4pm to 9.30pm
- Live performances at Kallang Wave Mall from 4pm to 6pm with buskers, DJs and NDP mascots
Celebrating Beyond The Parade
If Kallang feels too packed, the celebrations spill right across the island. There are family-friendly options that are mostly free and far less crowded. Here are three easy wins for the day.
- National Museum of Singapore – free admission, plus an outdoor screening of the parade in the evening
- National Day Concert at The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay – free performances ending with fireworks
- Singapore Flyer – a special overnight ride running from 11pm on 9 August through to 8am on 10 August
