Singapore’s mature MRT network, excluding the Thomson-East Coast Line, recorded a record mean kilometres between failures of 2.88 million train-km in August 2026, the Land Transport Authority said in its monthly rail reliability report published on Friday (11 September). Channel NewsAsia reported the figure rose from 2.37 million train-km in July and is the highest MKBF the network has ever posted.
Downtown Line nearly doubles
MKBF measures the average distance a train travels before a delay of more than five minutes, published as a 12-month moving average. August was also the fifth straight month above 2 million train-km.
The Downtown Line almost doubled its MKBF to 8.37 million train-km from 4.20 million in July. The North East Line edged up to 4.48 million, the East-West Line rose to 2.52 million, the Circle Line to 2.51 million, and the North-South Line held at 1.65 million.
Tenth month without a major delay
The mature network logged no delays of more than 30 minutes in August, extending that streak to a tenth consecutive month, the longest since LTA began tracking the metric in 2011.
LTA credited transport workers, rail operators and follow-up on Rail Reliability Taskforce recommendations issued in February 2026. The previous network high of 2.627 million train-km was set in June 2024.
Punctuality dips as TEL stays separate
Overall train service delivery slipped to 99.62 per cent from 99.71 per cent in July, and punctuality dipped to 99.03 per cent from 99.29 per cent. TEL, still reported separately while Stage 5 works continue, rose to 415,000 train-km from 373,000.
