Forty-nine schools will have a new principal in 2027, including Nanyang Junior College, Tao Nan School and CHIJ Katong Convent. Thirteen of the 49 are first-time principals, in the Ministry of Education‘s list released on Wednesday, 7 October.
The other 36 are experienced principals moving between schools, or school leaders returning from posts at MOE headquarters and the National Institute of Education. MOE rotates principals so that schools get new ideas and experienced leaders spread what works.
Most of the changes are in primary schools: 33 of the 49, against 15 secondary schools and one junior college.
When the new principals take over
The principals receive their letters of appointment at MOE’s annual Appointment and Appreciation Ceremony for Principals on 30 December 2026. Education Minister Desmond Lee will attend, and Director-General of Education Liew Wei Li will present the letters. Retiring principals will also be recognised at the ceremony.
Many of the moves form chains. One starts at Tao Nan School, whose principal, Mdm Poh Qinyu, moves to Valour Primary. Valour’s Ms Charis Wong goes to Temasek Primary, and the moves carry on through Northland, Sengkang Green and Junyuan to Huamin Primary. Tao Nan gets Mdm Loh Wee Cheng from MOE’s Student Development Curriculum Division.
