The beach at Area D of East Coast Park, near Carpark D5, is closed while oil patches are cleaned up. The beach remained closed on Sunday morning (25 October), NEA’s beach water quality information shows. NEA first advised against swimming and water contact there on Saturday (24 October).

Where Area D is
Area D is the stretch near Siglap Park Connector and Siglap Link, close to Victoria Junior College and Victoria School. Temporary closure signs are up on the beach. Area D’s car parks are D1, D3 and D5, and a section of its footpath is separately closed for upgrading until 30 November, NParks’ park notices show.
What MPA found
The oil landed on the evening of 23 October, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) told The Straits Times. MPA has deployed containment booms at drainage outlets along the park as a precaution and is investigating the source of the oil.
Aerial surveillance on the morning of 24 October found no oil in the waters off East Coast Park. NParks has not observed any impact on wildlife nearby, MPA told ST.

“MPA and the relevant agencies will continue to monitor the situation,” MPA told ST.
What NEA advises
NEA’s notice reads: “Beach is temporarily closed due to oil spill clean-up operations. Public is advised against swimming and engaging in primary water contact water activities until further notice.”
Primary contact activities are those where the body or face is often under water and some water is likely to be swallowed. NEA’s examples are swimming, skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, kite surfing, jet skiing and capsize training for kayaking and canoeing.
The rest of East Coast Park stays open. In NEA’s June 2026 grading, East Coast Park Beach was one of seven beaches rated Good, alongside Changi, Pasir Ris, Punggol, Seletar Island, Sembawang Park and Sentosa.
