HPV9 vaccine joins Singapore’s national immunisation schedules from 1 Jan 2027

Eligible Singaporean and permanent resident females aged 9 to 26 will be able to get the HPV9 vaccine, also known as Gardasil 9, at subsidised rates from 1 January 2027. The Ministry of Health (MOH), the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) and the Health Promotion Board (HPB) announced the change on 2 October.

What changes on 1 January 2027

HPV9 joins the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS), the National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS) and the Subsidised Vaccine List. The HPV2 vaccine, Cervarix, stays on both schedules as an alternative. HPV4, previously sold as Gardasil, is no longer available in Singapore and has been removed from both schedules.

Both HPV2 and HPV9 protect against HPV types 16 and 18, which cause 70 per cent of cervical cancers. HPV9 also covers types behind a further 20 per cent, taking its coverage to about 90 per cent.

How many doses

Girls who get their first dose between the ages of 9 and 14 are recommended two doses, and those who start between 15 and 26 are recommended three. A series started but not finished by 26 can be completed after that age, as early as possible and up to age 45.

Anyone who began with HPV2 or HPV4 and still has doses pending can finish the series with HPV9, as mixed schedules are safe and protect against the strains both vaccines cover. The Expert Committee on Immunisation does not recommend extra HPV9 doses for those who have already completed their recommended HPV2, HPV4 or HPV9 doses.

Changes in schools

HPV9 replaces HPV2 in HPB’s school-based programme from 1 January 2027. The programme vaccinates Secondary 1 and 2 female students at no charge. Girls in the 2026 Secondary 1 cohort who received HPV2 as their first dose will get HPV9 as their second dose in school in 2027, while students who have completed their series will not receive further HPV9 doses under the programme.

Subsidies and MediSave

Eligible Singaporean children will receive full subsidies for HPV9 at CHAS GP clinics and polyclinics. Eligible Singaporean adults get means-tested subsidies of up to 75 per cent in the same settings, and eligible permanent residents get subsidies at polyclinics.

MediSave can be used for HPV9 by those in the recommended groups, up to the Chronic and Preventive Care limits of S$700 or S$1,000. The higher limit applies to patients treated in a calendar year for two or more Chronic Disease Management Programme conditions, or for one such condition with recognised complications. Subsidies and MediSave do not apply to extra doses for people who are already fully vaccinated.

How to book

Appointments at participating CHAS GP clinics can be booked through vaccine.gov.sg, and polyclinics take appointments directly. HPV9 shots under the updated schedules start on 1 January 2027, and Healthier SG enrollees are encouraged to book at their enrolled clinic.
