Song Ui-Young doubled the lead on 56 minutes to settle any nerves and seal a second straight victory for the Lions in Group A. Fandi, wearing the number 19 shirt, was named the Hyundai Player of the Match for his lively display.
The clean sheet will please the coaching staff just as much as the goals. Two wins from two leaves Singapore in a commanding position early in the tournament, and the local support will be hoping the momentum carries into the knockout rounds.
Baker’s hat-trick lights up Indonesia’s opener
If Singapore’s win was measured, Indonesia’s was a statement. Mitch Baker marked his debut with a stunning treble, striking on 6, 15 and 56 minutes to leave Cambodia chasing shadows. Sandy Walsh added a fourth on 24 minutes and Jens Raven completed the rout on 86 minutes, with Chea Sokmeng grabbing a consolation for Cambodia on 48 minutes. The final score of 5-1 flattered nobody and underlined Indonesia’s attacking intent. Baker, in the number 9 shirt, was the obvious choice for Player of the Match.
What’s next: Group B kicks off
Attention now turns to Group B, which gets underway on Tuesday, 28 July 2026. Philippines take on Myanmar at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Capas at 6pm local time (10am GMT), before Malaysia host Laos at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium at 9pm local time (1pm GMT). Both fixtures promise to add more colour to a tournament that is already producing goals and drama.
