Singapore Art Museum (SAM) presents Maria Taniguchi: Afterimage, the first monographic museum exhibition in Singapore by acclaimed Filipino artist Maria Taniguchi. On view from 24 July to 22 November 2026 at Gallery 3, Level 3, SAM at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, entry is free for Singaporeans and PRs.

About the Exhibition
Afterimage brings together Taniguchi’s key works across painting, sculpture, and moving image, offering an intimate survey of a practice that is as meditative as it is exacting. The exhibition explores recurring themes of repetition, time, and labour — ideas central to Taniguchi’s meticulous and deeply committed artistic process.
Anchored by her ongoing series of “brick paintings” — large-scale canvases built through the obsessive, hand-painted repetition of brick-like forms that accumulate into dense, absorbing fields — the show also features a site-specific iteration of her Runaways sculptures crafted from Java plum wood, alongside four video works produced between 2010 and 2026.

Presented in Singapore following Taniguchi’s first survey exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) in Manila, Afterimage invites audiences to encounter the materiality, scale, and quiet intensity of one of Southeast Asia’s most significant contemporary voices at their own pace.
