Kimi Antonelli is simply unstoppable. The 19-year-old Italian Mercedes driver delivered a masterclass through one of the most chaotic Monaco Grand Prix races in years to claim his fifth consecutive Formula 1 victory and extend his championship lead to a commanding 66 points. The Monaco Grand Prix 2026 result: Antonelli wins, Lewis Hamilton takes second, and Isack Hadjar claims a stunning first podium for Red Bull as seven drivers failed to see the chequered flag.
Monaco Grand Prix 2026 Result — Carnage From Lights Out
The race began in dramatic fashion before even the first corner. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull suffered a devastating mechanical issue at the start, the Dutchman sliding down the order before pitting and retiring early — an agonising outcome after Red Bull had shown genuine pace across the weekend. Valtteri Bottas was also forced out early with brake issues that had troubled the Cadillac squad throughout practice.
Antonelli, starting from pole position, remained calm and composed through the early turbulence. By the midpoint of the race, he had built a near-30-second lead over the Ferrari of Hamilton — a lead that looked unassailable even when the Safety Car appeared on lap 60 after Lance Stroll crashed at the final corner.

Red Flag Drama — Leclerc Crashes At The Same Corner
The Safety Car period allowed many teams to take a second pit stop, momentarily threatening Antonelli’s lead advantage. But before the field could properly restart, heartbreak struck for Monaco’s favourite son. Charles Leclerc — racing on home soil in front of his own fans — crashed at the exact same corner as Stroll just as the field was about to restart. Officials red-flagged the race to inspect rapidly deteriorating track surface at that troublesome section of the Circuit de Monaco.
Leclerc’s retirement promoted Hadjar to third place behind Antonelli and Hamilton. Pierre Gasly of Alpine had briefly run ahead on the road, but two five-second penalties dropped him to seventh, handing the Racing Bulls youngster an extraordinary first career podium. Oscar Piastri took fourth for McLaren, with Liam Lawson fifth — a solid haul of points for Red Bull’s junior outfit, Racing Bulls.
Arvid Lindblad completed an impressive sixth in the other Racing Bulls car, while Alex Albon was eighth for Williams and Esteban Ocon ninth for Haas. In a historic moment for the American constructor, Sergio Perez brought Cadillac their first-ever Formula 1 points, though that result remains under investigation for a suspected false start.

Russell And Norris Endure Nightmare Afternoons
The race produced no shortage of talking points beyond the carnage at the final corner. Lando Norris saw his McLaren suffer a power-unit failure on lap 45 — his first points-less race of the season — while the afternoon turned truly disastrous for George Russell. The Mercedes driver received a drive-through penalty for a pit lane speeding infringement, then compounded his misery by colliding with Franco Colapinto’s Alpine just before the tunnel. Russell ended the race in 12th and outside the points, a nightmare afternoon that leaves his championship deficit at 66 points with 16 races remaining.
Carlos Sainz was also caught up in incidents, Hulkenberg tagging him and sending the Williams into the barriers, leaving Albon as Williams’ sole points scorer on a bruising afternoon for the British team.
Fernando Alonso salvaged a point in 10th for Aston Martin, finishing just outside the traditional top positions in a race where survival was almost as valuable as speed.
Antonelli’s Astonishing Start To 2026
Five races, five wins. Kimi Antonelli is rewriting the history books in his debut Formula 1 season and has become the youngest Monaco Grand Prix winner in history. He was brilliant at the start, unflappable through the chaos, and utterly dominant whenever the race was green. With Hamilton his closest rival in the standings — now 66 points back — the Italian teenager is driving with the composure of a seasoned champion.
The next round of the 2026 Formula 1 season heads to the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit for Round 7. Can anyone stop Antonelli before then? Based on Monaco, it seems an increasingly difficult question to answer.
