“Welcome! How angry are you today?”
I was candidly greeted with this question when I entered the shop. It is called the Fragment Room. As the name suggests, it is a place where you smash stuff into fragments. For the fun of it.
It is located at a rather inconspicuous spot in Aljunied, Central East of Singapore, along a stretch of old shophouses. You can find the room here – The Fragment Room
It was a relaxing day, putting work aside, so I was feeling less angry than usual (LOL). Still, how can smashing things up not be fun right?
What do they offer?
They provide packages for 1 pax up to 5 pax and even group/corporate packages. We were given 3 crates of assorted glass bottles and glass plates to smash. If that is not enough, we can add on other old electronics like VCRs, printers, monitors, and microwaves!
Do note add-on items are separately chargeable depending on the item type.
Pick your poison
The weapons!! This is every boy’s video game dream. You can choose from twisted baseball bats, spanners, hammers, crowbars, and more. The spanners are pretty heavy to carry, so be a little more careful swinging them. For everything else, hit anything you want but one another.
Bring the zombies on!!!
Oh, I mean bottles…
The tools reminded me of the movie “Hostel” where wealthy customers pay to torture kidnapped tourists in a foreign land. These customers have a whole array of torture devices to inflict on their victims. In our case, we are just “torturing” glass bottles hehe.
Safety brief
Before we get too excited, let us run through the safety brief and keep in mind the dos and don’ts of the activity. We were provided with helmets with a visor, coveralls, and cut-proof gloves as part of the package. Regular covered shoes are fine for this activity, but you can rent safety boots for extra protection if you wish.
Lights, Camera, and… Action!
Not much to say, pose for the camera and swing awayyyyyy!
Oddly, we were getting happier with every smash. There is a quirky sense of power and satisfaction when we hit the bottles cleanly with one strike. Then we started throwing the bottles in the air to try to hit them. Somehow, it became a baseball training session. :p
A pleasant surprise feature is the sound system within the room itself. There is an iPad for you to play your preferred heavy metal music or Pavarotti’s masterpiece. As I said, it is your personal torture room.
The session was physically exhilarating and exhausting to some extent. I was sweating a little towards the end even though the room was fully air-conditioned. Do come in light clothing as the coveralls are pretty thick and you will be fully covered from head to toe.
Whatever mood you are in, come by to give it a try. Expending your energy to smash things up may be a little more useful than staying angry. At least you get to burn some calories and create some entertaining memories for yourselves.
