We were invited by the Asian Civilisation Museum to the media preview of Armenian Street Party 2025: Peranakan Stars at the Peranakan Museum yesterday, located at 39 Armenian Street. The event runs from 14th – 16th March 2025.
We had the opportunity to participate in a Star Makeover with Raymond Wong where we can dress ourselves up in Peranakan attire for the evening. There was a long queue of participants waiting in line to get their make up done by these make-up professionals. I guess I will omit the make-up stage and pick my Peranakan outfit instead.

Check out the batik shirt I picked. I used to own a similar piece with purple floral designs. I think it looks more modern and youthful compared to the conventional brownish base batik shirts.

Raymond Wong is a leading kebaya maker and Steward of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Since 2005, Raymond has honed his passion for kebaya-making and Peranakan beadwork and has built a reputation for his craftsmanship. In 2016, the Singapore government commissioned him to create a Peranakan sulam shawl specially for Mrs Michelle Obama during PM Lee Hsien Loong’s state visit to the US. Raymond strongly believes in making Peranakan culture relevant to our youth. (The Peranakan Association Singapore)
As we explored the Peranakan Museum, there was simply so much beauty and art in every display. I do not have the words fitting for these treasures so I shall let the photos do the talking.

Next, the Ixora Room was packed with activities and Peranakan decorations of all kinds. It was bustling with so much energy I could barely focus on our tour leader. There were handicraft workshops, and props display from the drama serial, “The Little Nonya”. And little Ang Ku Kueys that do not look too filling.

One of the artworks on display is the Enduring Blessings designed by Ashley Yeo, who has an MA in Fine Arts from the University of Arts London, Chelsea College of Arts. She has exhibited in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and the US. In 2018, she was the first Singaporean artist shortlisted for the LOEWE Craft Prize in London.

Feeling all artistic, I could not help but capture this rare mural on the side of this shophouse. In Singapore, you DO NOT do this unless you have special approval from the relevant authorities to do so. And probably a very very tall ladder.
You know when someone is having fun, they do not care less who is looking, just like these 2 DJs. As they groove to the music, the Peranakan party also comes alive. I wanted to dance too, but my camera would lose focus so I had to do the dancing in my head.
UNIQLO’s Twine Together Zero Waste activity aims to create awareness of recycling using batik fabric scraps that we can use to craft beautiful handmade gifts. These are super easy and fun, suitable for all ages. Let your creative juices flow!
This cute couple, all dressed for the Peranakan party, having a fun date with Milo. I was trying to sneak a photo but the nice lady spotted me and she candidly posed for me. This handsome dude has the same taste as me. Nice catch bro, Cantik!
Check out our short 360 video clip which we took!
Special thanks to the Asian Civilisation Museum for having us. Bring your loved ones down this weekend for a tour!
