    Dinner over at Le Matin Patisserie @ ION

    My second visit to Le Matin Patisserie @ Ion and third time trying Le Matin Patisserie. The previous time I visited, it was tea-time and we only got to try their cakes and pastries.

    This time, it was dinner time. We got a table shortly within 15 minutes. Dining time was limited to 90 minutes.

    It was 6.15pm, and their cakes were mostly sold. I find it strange that they do not cater for more supplies given the dinner crowd might be keen to order some. I guess it could be they prefer their diners to be ordering the desserts instead.

    We decided on 2 starters, 1 soup, 1 main, 1 sides and 1 dessert. Freeflow sparking water available at $6 per person.

    Mini Sweet – Gingerbread Escargot

    I think this is a seasonal item.

    Mini Savoury – Duck and Foie Gras Sausage Roll

    Both items were delicious. But as the name suggests it was MINI. 1 bite was all it took for me.

    Sides – Brown Butter Artichoke Wedges

    Nice chewy texture with bit of char on the skin. I love this dish.

    Soup – French Onion Soup

    I haven’t tried too many French onion soup to compare. I found it alright and wished the soup had a bit more punch to it. You can probably skip this.

    Mains – Steak Frites

    Classic item. The beef was nicely done. Nothing spectacular. The fries were very good though. It grows on you as you munch on it.

    Desserts – Lemon Thyme Madeleines

    Freshly baked. Light, fluffy and warm. Not too sweet so it was easy to finish the entire serving.

    My Verdict:

    Taste: 4/5

    Service: 3.5/5

    Ambience: 3/5

    I find the food generally tastes good. If I am to revisit, it would be for their sweets and pastries.

    One thing I did not quite like, was that the tables are placed very closed together. Perhaps it was the fact that the rent is expensive so they have to maximise seating arrangements. I can clearly hear what the diners to my left and right are discussing.

    Many negative online reviews focus on criticizing the service, but I personally didn’t perceive the service crew as inadequate. It’s essential to recognize that their performance may not be on par with fine dining establishments, despite the fact that the pricing isn’t exactly budget-friendly.
