SGIFF Junior Explorers: three films for young audiences

Junior Explorers features three films from Chile, Ireland and Japan, all making their Southeast Asian premieres. Selected screenings are held in a relaxed, sensory-friendly environment with hands-on activities afterwards, so families can keep exploring each story together.

Brave Cat (Chile), directed by Gabriel Osorio Vargas, follows a young cat searching for her mother. Julián (Ireland), directed by Louise Bagnall, is an animated fantasy about a child who discovers the magic of self-expression in New York City. The Invisibles (Japan), directed by Ryo Takebayashi, is a live-action family adventure about a father and his three daughters who leave their secluded island home.

Screening dates and venues

Brave Cat and Julián each screen twice. Both have a relaxed screening with post-screening activities for audiences aged five and above on 25 October at the National Museum of Singapore’s Gallery Theatre, and both return on 1 November at Golden Village Bugis+. The Invisibles screens on 31 October at Golden Village Bugis+, for audiences aged 10 and above.

After Brave Cat, children can turn moments of frustration into decorated paper planes and launch them together. Following Julián, young audiences and their parents are invited to celebrate what makes them different through self-decoration and personal storytelling, before a group dance.
