Singapore Repertory Theatre‘s year-end children’s musical, Junior and the Holiday Magic, opens at the Drama Centre Theatre on Wednesday 21 October, with tickets from S$22. The production is by The Little Company, SRT’s theatre company for young audiences.

Shows run 60 minutes with no interval. Weekday performances are at 9.30am and 11.30am, and weekend performances are at 11am and 2pm.
The story and the team
Junior is the rebellious heir to the North Pole. When the Belief-o-Meter drops too low, Santa falls into a mysterious sleep and a greedy elf called Grumpo takes over the workshop. Junior, who has run away from home, has to go back and wake Santa with the help of Chipper the elf and Pengy the penguin.
The musical is written by Christopher Dimond with music by Michael Kooman. Rino Junior John plays Junior Claus.
Ticket prices, and the family package
Prices depend on the day. On weekdays, Cat 1 is S$42, Cat 2 is S$37 and Cat 3 is S$28. On weekends and public holidays, Cat 1 is S$52, Cat 2 is S$42, Cat 3 is S$32 and Cat 4 is S$22. The S$22 seat is a weekend-only price.
A family package takes 15 per cent off when exactly four tickets are bought together, in any category and at any performance.
For two adults and two children, that works out to S$74.80 in weekend Cat 4 instead of S$88, S$95.20 in weekday Cat 3 instead of S$112, and S$176.80 in weekend Cat 1 instead of S$208.
The show is eligible for the SG Culture Pass, so adults with the S$100 in credits can put them towards tickets.
Age rules and theatre rules
SRT recommends the show for children aged four and above. Babies in arms and children under four still need their own ticket.
Booster seats are handed out first come, first served, and are not guaranteed. Wheelchair access is only in the stalls; book through SRT’s box office. Food and drinks are not allowed in the theatre, and tickets are non-refundable.
Audiences are asked to be seated 15 minutes before the start. Latecomers are let in at a suitable point.
The pre-show workshop
Theatre Tales is a 90-minute drama workshop for children aged four to seven, held in Drama Centre Function Room 2 before selected weekend shows. It costs S$50 a child, and parents do not stay.
There are two slots a day: 9am to 10.30am, ahead of the 11am show, and 11am to 12.30pm, ahead of the 2pm show. Each child signs up for one slot only.
The dates are Saturday 24 October, Saturday 31 October, Sunday 8 November and Sunday 15 November. The 9am slot on 31 October, and both slots on 8 and 15 November, are sold out.
Theatre Tales is sold as an add-on to a show ticket and cannot be paid for with Culture Pass credits. Families using Culture Pass for the show can book the workshop separately through SRT at [email protected] or 6221 5585.
