As I aged, I grew out of my constant craving for Ba Chor Mee (minced meat noodles) and Char Kway Tiao.
However, I still find myself craving for the occasional bowl of laksa. Whenever I return from an overseas trip, laksa is at the top of my list of local comfort foods.
Sungei Road Laksa 结霜桥叻沙 is the store I visit religiously whenever I need my laksa fix. This place can get crowded during lunch hours so I will be there for breakfast before I head to work.
They are opened daily (close on Wednesday) from 9.30am.
I love that the cockles are fresh and the soup is fragrant. I like it that the coconut taste is not too overpowered.
A standard bowl of laksa come at SGD$4. You have the option to pay for extra ingredients and soup. I would always ask for extra bean sprouts and fish cakes.
The only utensil provided is a spoon. The idea is you eat every mouth with a mixture of the creamy soup, slurp-worthy noodles, crunch bean sprouts and succulent cockles. It’s a perfect symphony to the taste buds.
My Verdict:
Food: 4.5/5
