Trying New Menu Items at My Favourite Korean Restaurant – ANJU

If you like to experience elegant Korean cuisines, consider visiting ANJU (located at 62 Tras Street).

In a nutshell, their food appeals visually and tastes delicious and creates surprises.

I have been there a couple of times and this time for our Chinese New Year reunion dinner celebration.

All the dishes ordered are new to me. Some could have already been on the menu all along but I’m pretty sure I spotted a few new items.

Starters – 서리태 마스카포네 Black Bean Mascarpone with sourdough crackers, stimulates your appetite for more good things to come.

Another starter – 두부김치 Tofu Kimchi, again with sourdough bread.

I much prefer the Black Bean Mascarpone.

Cold dish – 육회 Yuk Hoe, seasoned raw beef dish. The accompanying condiments adds a refreshing and crips quality to the dish. Recommended to try if you are game for raw meat.

Hot dish – 양념컬리플라워 Yangnyeom Cauliflower, I love this dish. Never knew cauliflower can taste so good, almost a meaty feel to it.

Hot dish – 호감전 Hogam Jeon, Korean seafood pancake with mozzarella cheese. This is a crowd favourite and a must order. Pairs well with soju.

Hot dish – 돼지 뼈 등심 Dwaeji Ppyeo Deungsim, grilled iberico pork. Korean cuisine staple. Not wow but it’s not too bad either.

Mains – 갈비찜 Galbi Jjim, another meat dish, beef short ribs. The sides are refillable once. Not our first choice. We wanted to order the Bossam but it was sold out.

Sides – 쌈밥 Ssambob, rice roll with cabbage. Will probably skip this next time.

Desserts – 딸기 빙수 Strawberry bingsu, this was good. The shaved ice was soft and fluffy. The condense milk contains makgeolli. It’s a delightful and refreshing combination. You got to try this.

    My personal verdict:

Food: 4.5/5 (one of the better Korean restaurants in Singapore)

Service: 4.5/5 (the service crew are generally friendly and attentive)

Ambience: 4.5/5 (the tables are well spaced apart, the ambience is cozy)

I would recommend you check out their starters, cold and hot dishes. Those are exceptional.
