We were invited to the recent Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) held at Marina Bay Sands, where we met with the VP of KC Global Media Distribution, Bonnie Wiryani, and stars of the highly anticipated Taiwanese drama, “Breeze By The Sea (不如海边吹吹风)”.
The story is set in the picturesque coastal town of Kinmen Island, Taiwan, where the main character, played by Chen Bo Lin (陈柏霖), is seeking refuge after a series of scandals clouded his public image as a superstar. Joining the cast is Puff Kuo (郭芙美) from Taiwan, and our very own Hong Hui Fang (洪慧芳) and Fann Wong (范文芳) from Singapore.
The director Peter Ho (何润东) , known for his role in his earlier days as Cloud (步惊云) in the drama version of The Storm Riders (风云), shares that “Breeze By The Sea” contains snippets of his personal challenges and joyous moments in his life. Peter added that this drama is meant to spread more joy and love to the audience amidst the recent productiions of dark and sinister genre.
We managed to speak with Hong Hui Fang aka 慧芳姐, one of Singapore’s most recognised veterans in the acting industry. Despite her years in acting, she remains excited with opportunities to learn from her cast on portraying her role convincingly. She sought details such as the traditional mindset of a typical Grandma born and bred in rural parts of Taiwan.
Her earliest appearance as I can remember is the “Samsui Women” that was aired in 1986 by the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation. Back then, TV was all that we had for entertainment so it was part of my childhood memories. She could not believe I knew about the show as I probably look too young to have watched it. *humble brag*
“Breeze by the Sea” debuted on 14 December 2024 on AXN Taiwan and is be available to stream in over 170 countries exclusively through Rakuten Wiki and in 16 markets via Viu on the same day.
