The Singapore Motorshow 2025. From 9 to 12 January. Suntec Convention Centre.

I was tasked to cover the Singapore Motorshow 2025. I am perhaps the least knowledgeable about cars among the team. My track record with cars is as such. I buy a car, drive it till the COE runs out, then I buy another car. My family has two cars which my wife and I share.

I purchase a car to fit my lifestyle. To me, a car is a people and cargo carrier. I need my car to be able to fit my daughter’s bicycle and both my wife’s and my Brompton bicycles.

Therefore, the BYD Yangwang U9 is not the car for me. Looks sleek though.

Oh, just a heads up. This motorshow is full of electric vehicles. Be it fully electric or hybrids.

The press launch consisted of a schedule where we were brought to all the exhibitors. All of them had models which were launching at the Singapore Motorshow 2025.

It was pretty packed. There were many people at the press launch.

The cars were covered up before the unveiling.

I am intrigued by BYD’s naming conventions for their cars. I believe there’s a Seal and now a Sealion. If they come up with a Polar Bear or Hippo I might be properly enticed. Just because I can say “I drive a Hippo”.

BYD is the major exhibitor at the Singapore Motorshow 2025. They have the largest booth and their booth is situated right in the middle of the exhibition hall.

    The Seal looks really sleek.

Oh, there is a deal on the BYD M6.

I saw Nissan. They are situated on the left of the exhibition hall. Their lineup seems to be fully electric (or hybrid for that matter).

One thing I noticed. Nissan seemed to have a white theme going on. The cars they had on display were almost all white. That was one thing I noticed about their set up. A little variation in the future perhaps? Just a suggestion…

I prefer the design of the cars of yesteryear. I find the Subarus more aesthetically pleasing. I find the current car designs a bit too contoured. The BRZ and the Impreza WRX STI look really handsome.

    The Crosstreck looks fierce too!

I stumbled upon this Maybach. Looked really chunky. Shiny though. My car is dark coloured too. Does not shine like that though.

Here are some Mercedes vehicles on show.

I found two vehicles which I really liked at the Singapore Motorshow. The first is the Smart #5.

I love SUVs. I just think they are extremely practical and the chunky nature of the vehicle just makes me feel like I am driving something rugged. Although with cars being so expensive, it would be deeply upsetting to get dinks on a car.

There were other Smart cars on display too.

Round the corner from Smart was Citroen.

The Kia booth was also rather popular. Although my experience with Korean vehicles is sketchy. My first car was a Hyundai Accent. It was unreliable in a quirky way. While the engine never broke down on me, I had to deal with weird things like the rear windows sliding down as I was driving. I had to put tape to hold it up. Yes, those were the days of manually operated rear door windows. My second vehicle was a Honda Civic and I actually was impressed that I could control the rear passenger windows from my driver’s seat!

The Kia Carnival Hybrid looks decent as a 7-seater though. So does the EV9. Perhaps I will consider a Kia when it is time to replace my current vehicle.

Here were the other Kia cars on display.

Toyota’s booth was on the right of the exhibition hall. They unveiled the GR Yaris. Why do Japanese car manufacturers like to open the bonnet of their cars to showcase the engine?

Volvo was in the house too. You can get a demo unit at $199,999. It’s the EX 30. Is it a lot cheaper? I have no idea. I am assuming it would be this yellow and black one.

Audi unveiled their Q6 e-tron. Although Audis are popular in Singapore, I cannot seem to appreciate the design language of Audi.

Then there was Ora. They unveiled the Ora 07. I would expect this vehicle to be polarising. It’s either you like it or you don’t.

Ok the names are getting weird… What is a Good Cat?

I’ve never heard of Maxus. But here is their Mifa 9.

Then there is the Mira 7. My colleague Willie had to take a photo of the car with two ladies next to it… Why ah?

The Lexus cars are not new I presume? I think I see these models on our roads?

Ok for the second vehicle which I liked at the Singapore Motorshow 2025.

    The Mazda CX-80!

Hey why is that guy bowing? Your car looks good!

I like the chunky front grill.

The boxy nature of the vehicle appeals to me. I shared this picture with some friends and some were perplexed as to why I liked this vehicle. I just think the silhouette of this vehicle is so distinct. Modern vehicles seem to have one continuous curve from the front of the car to its rear. When it gets angular, the car gives me retro vibes.

There were some nice MG models on display too. I do not know of anyone driving an MG. Judging by the design language of the MGs, I would think that there should be at least some demand for these cars. They do look decently good.

Once again, Willie had to take photos of cars with female models next to them.

Seriously, MG cars look good right?

Next up was BMW. I think this is one of the more popular car brands in Singapore? For some reason I do not really like the design of BMW vehicles. I think the older Z4 is a beautiful car.

There is a new X3 though.

There is some promotion ongoing. They are selling mini surprise boxes at $88. They state that the value of the surprise boxes are more than $260. I think the whole unboxing craze is getting out of hand. Even BMW is getting in on the act! Maybe there is a secret Labubu in the surprise boxes?

I would prefer a Mini over a BMW. Not too sure about the reliability of the Mini though. Maybe my preference is due to me liking the movie the Italian Job. They looked cool in THAT chase scene.

The Mini convertible looks fun to drive and own!

    Next up is Hyundai.

Is it just me or do the Kia cars look much better than what Hyundai has on offer?

The Ionic 6 looks extremely dull…

There are models with the N badge. Some variant with higher racing specification.

Then there is Honda. My wife and I have owned 3 Honda vehicles. They are reliable and low cost to maintain. However, the current offering is really mundane.

The Jazz looks like it is mutating into a Nissan Leaf. The Freed is nowhere as handsome as the discontinued Honda Odyssey.

And no, collaborating with Muji is not going to make you cool again.

There is a good deal, in my perception, at Polestar. If you are a foreigner reading this article, yes, SGD$189,000 for a car is considered a good deal.

These days Chinese car brands are really aggressive. I cannot remember how many Chinese brands I encountered at the Singapore Motorshow 2025. Here is another. XPeng.

The press launch event ended about 1 plus and the public can now visit the Singapore Motorshow 2025. While we were at the event, they did not announce many deals. However, it is common knowledge that if you are looking for a car, the deals at the Singapore Motorshow are usually one of the most attractive. If you are looking to visit the Singapore Motorshow 2025, here are the details.
