Singapore’s Sentosa Island recently celebrated the first anniversary of its enchanting Sensoryscape, and we were there to witness the magic! Held at the unique iFLY Singapore, the event was a sensory feast that blended music, technology, and nature in a truly memorable evening.
Check out our 360 video coverage of the event here:
A Symphony of Senses:
The night began with an introduction to the talented composer, August Lum, the mastermind behind Sensoryscape’s captivating soundscape. The air buzzed with anticipation as August and his 8-piece band, featuring a flautist, cellist, guitarist, and keyboardist, took the stage. As a former Chinese flute player, I was particularly drawn to the nuances of the wind instruments. It was clear the band members were pouring their hearts into the performance, their passion radiating through the music.
Later in the evening, August returned with a 16-piece band, amplifying the symphony and creating an even more immersive auditory experience.
A Feast for the Eyes (and Stomach!):
Before the second performance, we were treated to a lavish buffet dinner. The spread was not only delicious but also visually stunning, a testament to the attention to detail that permeated the entire event. I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos before indulging! The guests were certainly enjoying the spread with immense pleasure.
iFLY Singapore: A Thrilling Start:
The event’s unique location at iFLY Singapore added an extra layer of excitement. I learned that iFLY offers an incredible indoor skydiving experience, allowing anyone from the age of 7 to experience the thrill of freefall in a safe and controlled environment. It’s a fantastic alternative to a tandem jump and at a fraction of the cost! ( the cost).
Sensoryscape: A Multi-Award-Winning Wonder:
Sentosa Sensoryscape has rightfully earned its accolades, including the Muse Design Awards for Architectural Lighting Design and Public Landscape Design, and an Honourable Mention at the International Federation of Landscape Architects Awards 2024. The 350-meter sensory walk is a masterpiece of design, engaging visitors’ senses through interactive digital light art and nature-inspired soundscapes.
Hands-on Experiences:
The anniversary celebration also highlighted the workshops available at Sensoryscape, including perfume-making and floral handicrafts. These hands-on activities are perfect for families, couples, and friends looking to create lasting memories.
Illuminated Arches and Tactile Trellises:
Walking through the illuminated floral arches was like stepping into a dream. The interactive light displays, synchronised with the soundscape, created a magical atmosphere, especially at night. The Tactile Trellis, with its diverse textures, inspired me to appreciate the beauty of nature’s intricate designs, from the velvety Chinese Wormwood to the spiky Juniperus species.
Lookout Loop and Interactive Light Projections:
The Lookout Loop offered panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, enhanced by animated light beams that danced to the music. Walking along the paths, I was captivated by the sophisticated light projections that responded to our movements, turning the ground into an interactive canvas. I felt like a kid again, jumping and playing with the lights.
Senseri: The Mythical AR Superbeing:
One of the highlights of the evening was the unveiling of Sentosa Sensoryscape’s NEW AR mythical superbeing, “Senseri”. By downloading the ImagiNite app and scanning the AR marker at designated booths, I was able to bring Senseri to life on my phone screen, watching it soar through the night sky. This interactive experience adds a whole new dimension to the Sensoryscape adventure.
Word Block Photo-taking:
The NEW Word Block photo-taking activity was a fun addition to the event, providing guests with a unique keepsake of their visit.
