My initial cafe experience in Bangkok, Thailand was not a good one. One of the first cafes I visited in Bangkok about a decade or so ago was Karmakamet Diner. Yes that stall selling scents and perfumes did actually have a cafe. It was perhaps the largest food scam in Bangkok. Ok, I might be exaggerating but it was pretty bad. I remember being charged a rather exorbitant amount, I believe it was about THB300 for some extremely poor quality rainbow coloured ice cream with a huge ball of cotton candy on top of it. That made me realise that food had to be Instagram-able for patrons to come. Karmakamet Diner eventually failed. That made me realise that you cannot survive on your food being solely Instagram-able.
Well then, Roast is one place that emphasises on its food looking really good. The food served up at Roast is Instagram-able. They plate their food really well. The difference between a place like Roast and Karmakamet Diner is that the food at Roast is really good whereas the food at Karmakamet Diner was barely edible. This coming from a person who can meal prep to eat for nutrition rather than for pleasure says a lot.
The Roast outlet that I frequent is the one at Central World. This is the Central World that is located next to Chidlom BTS Station. Roast @ Central World is located on the ground level within Central Department Store.
Yes, literally, go into the ground level. Where all the cosmetics are being sold. The other side of Roast @ Central World faces the Apple Store.
You can sit and wait for your seat and shop at the boutique next to it at the same time.
There is usually a queue during meal times. All seven days a week.
Roast cafes are all very nice places to have a good meal. I particularly like this outlet because of the high ceiling. It also faces the Apple Store as well as the walkway next to Central World.
Waffles are prepared fresh. Just fyi.
That is the entrance from the outside of Central World. It is just a few steps from the Apple Store.
Oh I think they changed their menu recently. Previously the menu was printed on quite flimsy paper. I believe they were trying to go for the newsletter look. Their menu is now a traditional looking menu. Some of the items on the menu are also new. If you have been to Roast, some items may look new to you. I am not sure if they removed any items.
Every time you go to Roast, you’ll get a loaf of bread. I do not eat bread but this is good. Been good the first time I visited Roast years ago. It is still good today. Trust me, this looks so simple but it is a highlight!
This is the hot chocolate. Nicely done, well presented.
Roast Iced Tea.
Hot tea to help with digestion perhaps?
I am not a coffee drinker. In fact, I do not drink coffee in Singapore. I only drink coffee when I am overseas. And the coffee has to be really interesting and good. I love the mix of sweetness and bitterness of the Orange and Roselle Cold Brew.
Compare the Truffle Alfredo with how it looks like on the menu. Looks almost identical!
This is my order. Smoothie Bowl! A vegan option.
This is Turkish Eggs. I believe this is a new dish on the menu.
This is the Roast Breakfast. I think it looks appetising (without the bacon).
Bolognese pasta.
Zucchini Pesto is another vegan friendly option. This is really good. Even if you are not vegan, you should give this a try. I have no idea how they make the dish so creamy.
We did not have dessert. The servings were not overly large but generous. We had a table of six people and what I just showed you filled us up. If you really want dessert, go for the Chocolate Profiteroles. I have had that on previous occasions. That dessert is truly worth the calories.
Roast can be found at three locations in Bangkok, Thailand.
They are at theCommons Thonglor, EmQuartier and Central World. I have been to all three outlets and my favourite outlet is the one at Central World. However, the food quality is consistent across all three outlets.
