Sometimes you read the title and you know the conclusion to an article but hear me out for this one.
Oh do you know that gelato is supposed to have lower fat content than traditional ice cream? It is supposed to have a denser, smoother, and silkier texture. Although I cannot tell the exact difference. Perhaps when it is placed side by side perhaps.
Presenting Messina.
Messina is located along Club Street. It is centrally located. Getting here is not the issue. This picture was taken at about 5pm. When there was not much of a crowd. Oh and how do I know this gelato is the best in Singapore? My wife requested to visit this place 3 weekends in a row.
On one weekend, the queue was 45 minutes long. I watched a half of football on my mobile phone while queuing.
Messina is located on the ground level of a shophouse. You cannot miss it as it is at the start, or end, of Club Street, depending on which way you are travelling from.
Every week this sign changes. I can confirm that the weekly specials do change. Calamansi Sorbet was excellent. But it was not there the following weekend.
This was the specials the following week.
They do not charge for cones. If you order two scoops you get this smaller cone.
Alternatively you can get it in a cup.
The fun part is that you get to try before you make your order. The staff are very friendly and let you sample the ice cream. Some people took forever to make a decision though…
This is the cone that comes with the 3 scoop option. And my daughter thinking how are we gonna finish that. We did eventually.
Alternatively this can be done.
This was the queue. This was me almost at the front of the queue. The queue can snake around the shophouse. Try to come before the sun sets where there are lesser people in the queue or at all. After dinner timings are the worst times to come, queue wise.
And when you get there after queuing for so long… It is difficult to not order the 3 scoop option. Anyway queue for so long already. Maybe that is a Messina tactic!
Whatever the case, just give Messina a try. I’m giving it the best gelato outlet in Singapore award. And it is not even close.
Yours sincerely,
Daryl
