I’m Wilber and in my previous article on the evolution of mobile phones, I delved into the “Wow” factor that drives innovation in the industry. Today, almost every major mobile phone brand has introduced its own version of a foldable phone, with HONOR being the latest. But does being the last to the party mean their foldable is the best? And are foldable phones truly the future of mobile technology?
Currently, the most significant “Wow” factor in mobile phone hardware is the foldable experience. I had the chance to try out the HONOR Magic V2 alongside the HONOR Magic6 Pro. Let’s dive into my review of the HONOR Magic V2!
First Impressions
The HONOR Magic V2 stands out with its large, immersive screen and slim profile, making it the world’s thinnest and lightest inward-foldable phone. At just 9.9mm thick when folded, the phone boasts a refined design with hinges that fold neatly.

Unboxing the HONOR Magic V2 (Singapore set) reveals:
- HONOR Magic V2 phone
- A 66W fast-charging adapter
- USB-C charging cable

- SIM ejector tool
The back cover’s stand is particularly handy for watching movies while eating.
Key Design Features.
Large, Foldable Display: Perfect for viewing content, with a slim design that makes it easy to hold and carry. The seamless folding mechanism ensures practicality and portability. When folded, the screen size is comparable to traditional phones, a significant advantage.
Battery Life: The 5000mAh battery ensures long-lasting performance.
Biometric Security: Enhanced security with both a fingerprint scanner (on the side button) and facial recognition.
Colour Options
The HONOR Magic V2 is available in Purple and Black (Vegan leather back). The dark purple shade exudes elegance.
Design, Display, and Build
The foldable design is a standout feature, folding smoothly and fitting comfortably in the hand. The build quality feels premium and durable.
The large screen provides an immersive experience for web browsing, navigating Google Maps, watching videos, and gaming. The OLED LTPO display offers superior color accuracy, and the 3840Hz PWM Dimming technology minimizes eye strain during extended use.
Performance and Battery
- Processor: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
- Battery: 5000mAh
- Charging: 66W wired HONOR SuperCharge
- Memory: 16GB RAM, 512GB storage
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 platform, the HONOR Magic V2 delivers smooth and efficient performance. Whether multitasking, gaming, or streaming, it handles everything with ease. The 5000mAh battery, coupled with the 66W fast charger, ensures you stay powered throughout the day without frequent recharges.
Security and Privacy
The HONOR Magic V2 includes a fingerprint scanner (on the side button) and facial recognition for quick and reliable security, ensuring your data remains safe and secure.
Camera and Videography
The HONOR Magic V2 features a triple rear camera setup:
- 50MP Main Camera (f/1.9)
- 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera (f/2.0)
- 20MP Telephoto Camera (f/2.4)
The camera excels in auto mode, capturing vivid colors and sharp details. Compared to the HONOR Magic6 Pro, images are slightly brighter. If the HONOR Magic V2 had the same camera features as the HONOR Magic6 Pro, it would be the perfect foldable phone.
The video quality is good but doesn’t match the smoothness and clarity of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. There’s a slight sluggishness in video performance, but it’s still among the better options for Android phones.
Special Features
Google Integration: The HONOR Magic V2 is fitted with Google services, ensuring access to a wide range of apps and enhancing the device’s overall functionality.
Conclusion
The HONOR Magic V2 is a remarkable phone excelling in design, display, and camera performance. Its foldable design and large screen make it a great choice for users who need a bigger display. It’s like having an iPad mini in your pocket, ready to expand when needed.
While it lacks a stylus, which would make it the perfect foldable phone, it remains one of the best Android foldable phones available. Priced at S$1999, the HONOR Magic V2 is definitely worth considering.
