For the first time, one of Malaysia’s most popular food fairs, the “Absolut Food Festival,” has made its way to Singapore. The festival is happening from 16th to 19th August 2024 at the Kallang open carpark, offering a unique opportunity to savour a wide variety of flavours and products from Malaysia.
When my colleague mentioned the event, I was intrigued and decided to check it out myself. The festival features about 130 booths, showcasing an exciting mix of food and retail brands from both Malaysia and Singapore.
As we arrived, we were greeted by a long, snaking queue. Initially, I considered skipping the event altogether, thinking the line was for entry. However, upon closer inspection, I discovered that the queue was actually for the famous Kunafa Aiwahhh stall—a testament to its popularity. Be prepared for a wait of 2-3 hours if you plan to indulge in this particular treat.
We tried Satay Ummi at Ramadan Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar earlier this year and it was good.
Cempedak Goreng was delicious. If you haven’t tried Cempedak, get it!
Fazz Fries’s interesting method of putting sauces onto the long fries.
If you can’t go home without getting Kunafa, perhaps consider getting one from a local stall? You still have to queue though.
A word of advice: avoid driving to the event. The carpark situation is a hassle, with significant delays both entering and exiting. Public transport is likely the best option.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, several Malaysian celebrities and personalities will be making appearances, making it a star-studded affair. And the best part? Admission is free, so if you no plans this weekend, drop by and experience Absolut Food Festival.
